Cori Ross is thanking her lucky stars. Sure, her long-time boyfriend just dumped her, but that’s a good thing. In her rush to find Mr. Right, she realizes she almost settled for Mr. Just Okay. And that’s definitely not okay. So, tonight, she’s out with her friends at the Breakup Bash—a private party for women celebrating their break-ups—and she’s actually celebrating. Still, it was too close a call. So she makes a deal with herself—no guys for six months.

Unfortunately, just as she’s leaving the club, she runs into her old boyfriend, Grey Latham—the guy she’d always wanted to be Mr. Right. Great. What a time to swear off guys. Maybe she needs to change the deal—no relationships for six months. There’s no reason why she can’t have a fling, right? Because Grey still holds the title of the best sex she’s ever had.

There’s no way this could go wrong. Grey is on his way to international DJ fame—he’s only in town for a short time, and then he’ll be gone again. No harm in burning up the sheets while it lasts.

Too bad neither expected what happened next…

NICUnurse’s Review of The Last Rule of Makeups by Nina Crespo

Nina Crespo is a new-to-me author in the sense that I had never read one of her books…until now. I’ve seen her name a lot around the romance book community, and I know several people who really like her writing, so I thought it was time to dive into one of her books for myself to see what’s what. The Last Rule of Makeups is the third book in her Breakup Bash series but can absolutely be read as a standalone title. I haven’t read the first two books, and if I hadn’t already known this one was a part of a series, I would have never known that I had missed any of the other books. In other words, I wasn’t lost at any point in the story, nor did I feel like I was missing some piece of vital information, either.

What I Liked Most About the Book: At the very beginning of the book, the impression I was getting was that this was going to be just another “I hooked up with my ex” book with plenty of hot and spicy scenes but not a lot of depth to the story. You know the old saying, “Don’t judge a book by its cover”? Yeah…don’t judge this book by its first couple of chapters. It turned out to be a story full of so much more depth than I anticipated. Depth of its characters as well as depth to the story. So, my favorite thing about the book is that I have a new-to-me author that I’m definitely about to read more of her books!

NICUnurse’s Rating: I love second-chance romance books. Most likely because my own story is a second-chance romance, but whatever. Next to romantic suspense, it’s one of my favorite romance tropes. Cori and Grey had a romance that they thought would carry beyond college. But due to circumstances beyond either one’s control, the relationship died, despite the fact that they still loved each other. Now, a bit older and (hopefully) a bit wiser, fate has them crossing paths once again. And their story is a truly heart-warming––if not a bit of an emotional rollercoaster––one as they navigate the ups and downs of rekindling a very intense relationship. They must navigate family issues, career issues, and communication issues as they attempt to move forward with their futures…hopefully together.

The Last Rule of Makeups wove its way into my heart with great writing by this author, and with wonderful characters that I just couldn’t help but fall in love with and absolutely root for. And it was such a wonderful read that I’ve already purchased the first two books in the series and can’t wait to dive into those.

I give The Last Rule of Makeups by Nina Crespo 4.5 out of 5 propellers!
