Descended from Shadows brings us a new world of witches and magic. Phoebe and her sisters have been tasked with protecting the world from the magic inscribed within the Book of Sindal, but when her sister Celeste and the book go missing, the worst is feared. When her high school crush turned mage is assigned to protect the sisters and help them find the book, another kind of spell happens!
I loved the magic created in this world. Phoebe can reach out to the bodies of witches and mages who’d lived and died generations before her and “borrow” their powers as long as they share DNA. This means almost an unlimited carousel of power, provided that she is close enough to connect with her ancestor. While Phoebe and Celeste have different kinds of magic, they each have been taught to use their strengths.
There’s no lack of action here either. It only takes a chapter or two before the sparks start flying…in more ways than one. While I’m not so sure that we should trust the devastatingly handsome Brandon, but there’s no denying the heat and history between him and Phoebe. She is such a strong-willed resolute character and I loved her journey. She and her sisters are reminiscent of “the power of three” if you know what I mean! If you loved Charmed, then you’ll love Descended from Shadows. Mystery, suspense, adventure, and a sexy mage all wrapped up in a story with heaps of history and a fantastically constructed magical world — what more can you ask for?
