This is a standalone book, but if you haven’t read “Beautifully Insightful” I really encourage you to do so. Not only is it a great book, but it’s where we are first introduced to CeCe and her huge purses! You’ll understand her personality a bit better if you read that first.
What can I say… I really did love this story! I’ve been waiting for CeCe’s story for a long time! Her story picks up a while after the events in Beautifully Insightful, in which her father sacrifices his life to save another. She was very close to her father. So when her apartment building catches on fire, she’s caught by Gabe attempting to find, and save, the last purse her father gave her that is priceless to her. He completely misjudges her and she completely misjudges him. But they are also quite drawn to each other. There’s a thin line between love and hate sometimes!
CeCe is an adorably sweet, but quite sassy, girl who looks pretentious on the outside because of her love of all things high fashion. She reminds me a lot of Elle Woods in “Legally Blonde” only she doesn’t come across as dumb like Elle does at first. CeCe is a hardworking business woman and her success shows how smart she really is.
Gabe is a hot, hardworking firefighter. He’s had to work hard since he was a kid but he’s become a very successful man in his own career. He’s loyal and loving to his family and friends.
Watching these two characters grow into a couple was entertaining, heartbreaking, and heartwarming all at the same time. She comes from a small, close knit family of affluence. He comes from a large family in poverty. So you can only imagine the road bumps these two face along the way. They have to get over their own world views and understand where the other is coming from. Both have a lot of emotional growth going on throughout this story, as well.
I give this book 5 propellers! If you love a steamy romance with complicated, but loveable characters that have some hardships to overcome to make an unlikely pair work, this is definitely a book you’ll want to read. While the characters seem simple in the beginning, as the story moves along you start to see just how much depth they actually have. And that is really true for all of KC Lynn’s characters. And she writes them in a way that has you rooting for all the unlikely pairs!
