Title: A Lot Like Christmas
Author: Jennifer Snow
Genre: Holiday Romance
About A Lot Like Christmas:
For Jessica Connolly, there is no better place than her coastal hometown of Blue Moon Bay. She has a wonderful family, supportive best friends, and a successful bakery on Main Street. Unfortunately, every time she designs one of her ex-boyfriends’ wedding cakes, she’s reminded just how unlucky she is with love…and that she’s a good luck charm for men to find their happily ever after. With someone else. The minute they break up. So she’s decided to be done with love.
Dr. Mitch Jameson is more comfortable traveling the world with Doctors Without Borders than staying in one place. He just needs to survive the holidays in his small hometown before he can leave again. The beautiful, intriguing bakery owner with an aversion to dating might be just who he needs to occupy his restless heart.
From sipping hot chocolates at the local festival of lights to early morning dessert deliveries, Jessica and Mitch rediscover the spirit of the holidays. But when the 25 days of Christmas are over, will their romance be over, too?
NICUnurse’s Review of A Lot Like Christmas
Jennifer Snow is a new-to-me author, but this won’t be the only time I read one of her books. I love Christmas-themed books year-round. But this time of year, I love them even more as the holiday approaches.
I think the thing that impressed me the most about this book was the author’s ability to write the pace in such a way that didn’t make the story feel like it was dragging. I don’t know why, but it seems like a lot of the Christmas-themed, Hallmark-y feeling books I read tend to feel sluggish. However, this one did not. Maybe it’s because the characters can feel the clock ticking down on their time together. My husband and I dated long distance for many years and dealt with many military deployments and TDYs (temporary duty…think business trips) after we married, so I know this feeling all too well.
Now, let’s talk characters for a moment. Mitch is a man with a heart for helping people in the most desolate of places. He’s the complete package: looks, brains, and compassion. And Jess is a woman with a heart for helping people too. Only closer to home. So how can they make a relationship work? One word: compromise. Getting to compromise is what makes this story so poignant. We’re all selfish to a point, and compromise isn’t easy to come by. Getting there takes growth both separately and alone. And these two characters grew beautifully. If you love holiday romance, especially those with a Hallmark holiday movie feel, A Lot Like Christmas is one you will not want to miss.
