Full confession: this is the first book I’ve ever read by this author. I have several bookish friends that love her stories, but I’d never really taken the plunge. I’ve been in a bit of a paranormal mood lately, so when I saw she was dipping her toes into the paranormal romance pool, I decided now was the time to give one of her books a try. And I can honestly say I get what all the fuss is about now.
At first glance of the blurb, it sounds like this story is going to be a delightful rom-com. But there’s so much more to Romy and Trace’s story. There are some fun, funny, and witty moments, don’t get me wrong. And, of course, the paranormal twist. But at its heart, it’s about family (your biological and your chosen), finding yourself, and what it means to put others before yourself. It’s also about standing up for what’s right and bucking the system because what’s always been done isn’t what should continue to be done. If I had to sum up the book in one word, I’d choose heartwarming.
Romy and Trace have chemistry in spades. But they are both still searching for who they are without a family to help define them. The ups and downs along the road to finally realizing who they are and what purpose they serve are what make this story more than a delightful rom-com. It gives it heart and depth you might not expect from a paranormal romance, either. If you’re a PNR fan, I challenge you to give Romy and Trace a chance. I don’t think you’ll be disappointed at all. I know I wasn’t!
