NICUnurse’s Review of Heroic Measures by Marie James

Heroic Measures is the sixth book of Marie James’ Blackbridge Security series. All of the books can be read as standalone titles, but as someone who’s enjoyed all of them, I highly recommend starting from the beginning if you like binging a series. And if you don’t, you could pick any one of them to read out of order. 

 

Jude is the character that has intrigued me almost from the beginning but definitely since the previous book in the series, Calculated Risk. Same with Parker. As the best friends to the previous book’s hero and heroine, I knew their story would be pretty angsty. Parker was just one of those characters that oozed angst when it came to falling in love. And I was right. Jude is probably my favorite amongst the Blackbridge guys and seeing all of the angst Parker put him through really tugged at my heartstrings. I just wanted to pull him into a big hug. Thankfully all’s well that ends well, and for these two, it does end well. But not without some twists and turns woven through the angst. This book packed a lot of steamy scenes, which usually would have me feeling a bit eh towards it. However, in this instance, it truly did add to the story. I know that doesn’t make sense, so you’ll just have to trust me when I say, despite the numerous sexy times, it didn’t seem over the top. It seemed exactly right for what these two characters went through.  

 

I’m pretty invested in the series at this point, but even if I wasn’t, it’s definitely on my list of romantic suspense books that I’d recommend if you’re looking for suspense, romance, some seriously steamy scenes (and a lot of them), and angst before the HEA.

I have a master’s degree in criminal justice which I used to work as a juvenile probation office until deciding to write full-time in June of 2019. So that means there’s usually always some criminal/law element to my novels.

If I’m not writing; I’m reading.

My favorite genres recently are bully/reverse harem and enemies to lovers. Maybe I’m reliving my traumatic teen years through the girls who actually end up with the boys. (Not that I would change my history since it’s gotten me exactly where I need to be!)

I love coffee. I miss carbs. Music is LIFE. I try not to be too serious.
