Good rule of thumb: Don’t pick a fight with Bree O’Rylee. She might be over forty and run with a limp, but that doesn’t mean she won’t track you down and drive the tip of her boot right up your . . .

Bree was hoping for a few days off from dealing with monsters, bad guys, or general weirdness that doesn’t fit into a human box of what is supposed to be real.

What she got was a stay in the hospital with an undead roommate and a whole new set of problems that keep rising from the grave.

But her love life is at least on track. Until it’s not. And when it goes sideways, it jumps straight into the drink and sinks to the bottom.

Now, Bree has to put her heart on the back burner as she is offered a major job hunting down the very person causing all the undead to rise. And she has two days to do it before the whole town turns into a scene from the Walking Dead.

Time to pull up your big girl panties and swig a little whiskey. Things are about to get interesting.

**Cait Sidhe’s Review of Midlife Zombie Hunter**

If you hate cliffhangers, do yourself a favor and don’t pick up this series. Seriously, EVERY. SINGLE. BOOK. I myself, am a glutton for punishment, so off I go with a smile on my face. Book three, Midlife Ghost Hunter, ended once again abruptly. Bree and Crash were in the forge and things were just heating up and…WHAMMO. End of book. Thankfully, Shannon took pity on us and started Midlife Zombie Hunter at the exact moment that we left off with Bree and Crash getting busy. BUT Bree’s suddenly writhing on the floor and not in a good way.  Hello, hospital, and hello morphine! Of course, because chaos follows Bree everywhere she goes, the hospital is about to be spelled on lockdown thanks to a zombie outbreak. She’s then offered a buttload of money to figure out who is raising the dead. That will get her everything she’s wanted since the start, right?

If you’re expecting that you are finally going to get answers in book five, oh my sweet summer child, no. We are strung along for another ride. Crash is attempting to be heroic by protecting Bree from the shadow world, but what he doesn’t realize is that she can protect her damn self…mostly. His knight in tarnished armor act is getting old. Is he? Isn’t he? Does he? Doesn’t he? Ugh. He thinks she can’t possibly want to be with a man tied to the darkness but can he open his friggin eyes already? She’s in it deep as well.  Robert is looking better and better every minute. Except Crash’s fae queen ex-wife has absconded with him. Her friends are acting strangely and loyalties are called into question. It’d be really easy for Bree to sink into despair about right now but in typical fashion, she pulls herself up and keeps fighting.

For just a moment I didn’t see myself. Not my forty-three-year-old face or body. Not the wrinkles I was earning every damn day or the increasing laxity of my skin. Not the failure I so often saw. Certainly not the girl who wondered if she’d ever get it right. No, I saw someone else. I saw a damn boss bitch ready to take on the day. I saw a woman who had earned her scars. I saw a woman who faced each day with all the energy she had left. I saw a woman who loved with all her heart, even when it hurt her. I saw a woman I liked very much; a woman I’d like to see more of.

This ending is absolutely heartbreaking. Sometimes you have to lose everything to find yourself. Bree’s offered an impossible choice by an unlikely ally, but there’s always a trick with the fae. Now that she finally knows a bit more about her bloodline and the powers that she has, she might have someone who can help her learn to use them. And if that means that Crash doesn’t have the same zing for her anymore? Well, it might be the best way to protect her heart.
I don’t know what is going to be pulled out for book six, but we have to wait until January to find out. *whines*

About the Author

A long time ago, in a galaxy far away, I was born into a family of Star Wars nuts. I have a lot of siblings (somewhere I lost count but I think there was more than could be numbered on one hand) and being one of the young padawans I was subjected to Star Wars marathons, on a regular basis. If you’ve read any of my books you’ll see there is often a reference to said movies as a small homage to my upbringing. May the force be with you and all that jazz.

I started writing when I realized I didn’t want to grow up not believing in magic, or not believing in creatures everyone else said didn’t exist. That being said, I have never seen a fairy, unicorn or dragon. I had a neighbour who swore they fed the leprechauns in their garden, but I never caught the little buggers no matter how long I lay in wait. (And consequently had to help the neighbours plant new flowers to replace those I killed waiting for the leprechauns to show their faces.)

Along the way, I found my husband who is the rock that keeps me from floating away into my dreams, and we have a little boy who is the centre of our world. Living on a farm keeps us busy (as if the writing wasn’t enough) and I have more than my share of stories about wrestling with cows, helping birth calves and ending up in the creek during the process, falling in the mud (we’ll call it mud but we all know that on a farm, mud is rarely mud) and chasing escaped livestock in the hopes the four legged convicts don’t make it to the highway.

I’ve taken up archery, and the goal is to move into horseback archery in time (you know, when I can hit the target on a consistent basis) and when no one is looking, I love to bake (this doesn’t happen often as it’s hard to keep the sweet treats in stock with two boys in the house.)

As to what’s coming next for me? More stories (since those never stop inside my head, I might as well share them with all of you!) and more adventures. Pretty much, when the fancy strikes, I’ll jump on it. Leap before you look I’m sure that motto was created for me.

Or was that . . . think big and dream bigger, ready, set, pull the trigger . . . yeah. That one is a good one too. But only if you have a gun. And are hunting elephants. Which is not cool because of so many reasons. Let’s stick with the first one with an addendum.

Leap before you look and let your dreams carry you on their wings. And that, my friends, is me in a nutshell.
