Fly Girl’s Review

It looks like today is a day for historical romances. This is by far my favorite genre, there is no thought to determining if the details are correct or not since I didn’t live in that time. All I have to go by when analyzing and reading these is the knowledge I’ve gained from history books and other historicals I’ve read. It makes them so much fun for me. This will be the second historical review today and I think I’m reading these so much because they are easy to digest and I get swept away. I’m under a lot of stress right now at my day job and selling a long time rental and these have been able to clear my headspace. So if you aren’t really into historical romances, maybe this will give you a new perspective on them.

I always enjoy Sabrina Jeffries and have been trying to read this series, but my schedule would get to full when they were coming out. I finally was able to put this on my calendar and I’m glad I did. It didn’t turn out how I thought it would, but it helped me let go of some stress and that was the most important thing I need when I read it. I thought this would be a case of mistaken identity based on the title, however, it was simply a lying rogue who becomes reformed in the process of his investigation. I know that sounds awful, but it wasn’t. It was a cute story where the hero thinks he knows best and all. When he gets caught up in his own emotions and finds he’s more interested in the spirit of the lady rather than investigating her mother for murder is when it turns into an angsty romance.

Hilariously, the mother who’s under investigation is trying to get her daughter to decide on a husband of wealth and is not in favor of Sheridan because he’s an impoverished Duke. Funny how the tides eventually turn and Vanessa’s Mom decides a title is better than nothing. Then it’s just getting the Duke to realize wants Vanessa for always. Nothing like a little indecent compromise to make that happen.

As always we get our HEA and a little update on all the other couples in the series. The mystery gets figured out and the criminal tied up with a bow. All around we get a good finish to the Duke Dynasty. Now maybe I can get to a few of the others from the series as my schedule slows a little this summer. I’m giving this a 4 of 5 propellers.
