NICUnurse’s Review of Off the Record by Kristen Proby

I’m a long-time Kristen Proby fan. Her With Me in Seattle series hooked me from the very first book way back in late 2012, and I’ve devoured each one since. So when we got a small taste of what she could do with a mafia spinoff in Archer’s story (You Belong With Me), I was pretty intrigued. Being a long-time mafia romance fan, as well, seeing her dip her toes into that genre made me fairly giddy. Underboss (book one in this new mafia series) was a huge hit with me, as was Headhunter (book two), so it was a no-brainer that I’d dive into Off the Record as soon as I could get my hands on it. It can be read as a standalone title, but both previous books were fabulous, so I highly recommend starting at the beginning for the best possible reading experience. I’m a series junkie, though, so you can take that advice with a grain of salt, per se. 

Annika and Rafe’s story is a second-chance, frenemies-to-lovers romance. I’m a total sucker for second-chance romance, so this one really hooked me. However, I still can’t put my finger on why, but Headhunter is still my most fave of all three of these books. The suspense seemed to be just a bit more suspenseful in that one, I think. Or maybe it’s just because I’m partial to military men (hubs is retired Air Force). 

All in all, though, this was still a very unputdownable book. I thought the author did a great job unraveling all the threads and putting all of the pieces from all of the books (including You Belong With Me) to wrap up the series well. I’m sad to see the series end, but I am very hopeful we’ll see more mafia from Kristen Proby in the not-so-distant future. She’s still at the top of my automatic 1-click author list, and I don’t see that changing anytime soon.
