Fly Girl’s Review:

I love Molly Harper. I started listening to her work at the insistence of Teresa and I’ve not looked back. I’ve listened to her Vampire romances, which I hate vampires, but love her’s, her Southern Eclectic Series, a rom com, and The Sorcery and Society series, a young adult, and I’ve not been unhappy with any of them.

This story isn’t as funny as the a lot of her other stuff. It has a serious note to it with a bunch of home improvement specialist that are hired to renovate and old estate on an island. I know, perfect setup to a haunted house. Let me tell you it’s super haunted. Some of it’s haunted and some of it’s just pure people being evil. We don’t always see evil coming, sometimes it sneaks up on you in a quiet skiff in the middle of the night, or middle of the day. In this case Nina gets a bit of both kinds.

Nina is such a nice soul, that she’s now sure how she even ended up broke, scraping for jobs when her partner absconded with all her money and her good credit. She never saw that coming…She buried herself in work and let him handle the rest. She is on a mission to redeem herself with this project, but she ends up getting too involved with the background of the house and starts seeing ghosts and interacting with them.

Somehow through it all, she designs some of the most beautiful gardens and makes the rest of the rehabbing group love her. Well, almost everyone. You can’t have it all right? At least not everyone believes she deserves the boss who see way more in her than a gardener.

Lucky for Nina, she has the staying power and stamina to outlast the rest on the island including a fire starting ghost, an evil ex-business associate, and even a few hostile co-workers. Molly always lets us have our HEA, in this instance it comes with lots of cops and sirens as well as well wishers and pasts laid to rest. Nina strives to be better everyday in this story from learning why her business was ruined, how to bring it back from the brink, how to reach a reclusive boss, and what the story behind the property and leftover family is. She’s always wanting to make things better and learn more. This is what makes this story so rich. I mean the other characters give us some laughs and tears, but it’s her perseverance to be better that keeps us cheering for her.

Because we all need a heroine to cheer for and a story that takes us out of our own lives in such lush style, I’m giving this a 4 of 5 propellers. Definitely listen in audible. The narrator has an voice of exasperation to make you howl with laughter.
