NICUnurse’s Review of Betrayed by Dr. Rebecca Sharp
Betrayed is the first book in a new, sexy spinoff of Dr. Rebecca Sharp’s Carmel Cove series. It launches the all-new Covington Security series with Ace and Addy’s story. For Carmel Cove fans, this is the story we’ve wondered about and wanted for a while. But for new readers, you can absolutely start from this book and enjoy this new series without missing a beat.
I’m about to throw out a bit of brutal honesty here. I’ve read all of the Carmel Cove books because the author hooked me on the characters from the beginning. Some books have been a huge hit with me. And some…not so much. With that said, I’m a characters girl, so I go back to the fact that even when the plots didn’t quite hook me as well as others, the characters did. If I can’t connect with the hero and heroine, even a great plot will leave me disappointed in a story. I can truthfully say that sticking with the Carmel Cove series has been totally worth it to me for that reason. And Ace Covington intrigued me from the moment he appeared. I wanted to see what would happen when he finally got his story. I’m delighted to report that this book tops the list of hits by this author. Once Addy came on the scene, and we got just a small taste of her friendship (and the angst) with her and Ace, I just had to know what their story was.
As an avid romantic suspense lover for many, many years, Betrayed hit all the high points. The pace didn’t lag, the plot development was good, and the chemistry between our hero and heroine is off the charts from the very beginning. Unfortunately, I did figure out who our villain (well, more like our betrayer than villain) was early on in the story. That was a bit disappointing but not nearly enough to give up on the story. But the plot development regarding the why and how made up for that. It was well thought out and just intricate enough that I didn’t figure out all of the ins and outs before the big reveal. Oh, and the book is pretty steamy, too! I’ve seen a lot of growth in this author’s writing since I found Tequila, the first book of hers that I ever read, and I’m definitely looking forward to what’s next for the Covington Security guys and our Carmel Cove friends.
Fans of Dr. Rebecca sharp will not be disappointed by this story, and new readers will be drawn in and hooked from page one. If you like contemporary romantic suspense books with a strong heroine who is no shrinking violet and a tough, stubborn hero where they go from friends to lovers, this is one book you’re going to want to dive into right away.
