Mia

All I ever wanted was a family of my own.

Getting involved with Mason Arrington is a bad idea. Navy pilot, with a swagger, unlike any guy I’ve ever been attracted to before. He’s confident and aloof, but underneath that rough exterior, is someone who is struggling with so much more than meets the eye.

No matter how hard I try, I cannot seem to avoid him, or his family.

When he’s back from his deployment, the need to resist him grows even stronger than ever.

Even though Mason and his son look like everything I’ve ever wanted, I need to remember a family isn’t in the cards for me.

Mason

I need Mia Hatton.

I can’t ignore how beautiful she is, how outgoing, and caring. She’s the opposite of any woman I’ve been with. And there are half a dozen reasons why we probably shouldn’t be together.

Even when I’m flying fighter jets half a world away, I can forget about everything except Mia, who keeps inserting herself into my life with her messages, kind words, and updates from home. I need to detach but she won’t let me.

Can I convince her that she is worthy of love and this whole time she’s just been looking for that love in all the wrong places?

Impassioned is part of the Salvation Series World by Corinne Michaels. It’s a cross-over between that series and Lea Coll’s Annapolis Harbor Series.

NICUnurse’s Review of Impassioned by Lea Coll

I’m a Lea Coll fan, so I feel like I kind of say the same things over and over. But something about her writing just resonates with me. And Impassioned was another good read from a favored author. It’s a standalone book written in the Salvation Society world. You do not have to have read any of those books to fully enjoy Impassioned. It’s a slow-build contemporary romance.

Mia’s been unlucky in love and is trying hard not to fall for Mason. But there’s something about this gruff, standoffish military man that just calls to her. And his son pulls at her heartstrings as well. Will letting Mason and Evertt into her heart be the love story she’s looking for, or will they irreparably shatter her heart?

This book really spoke to me because I also love a (now former) fighter flyboy. There’s something about the job that makes these guys harder to get to know and harder to love. But with a bit of patience, persistence, and honesty, the right girl can help them open up and blossom. And that’s exactly what Mia does for Mason. While he heals her heart, she heals something inside of him that he wasn’t aware needed healing in the first place. And that, my friends, makes for a beautiful love story. The scenes surrounding his deployment brought back so many emotional memories for me, so there were a few tears shed. But I wouldn’t call this book a tear-jerker unless you’ve experienced life as a military spouse or your significant other is in the military. One of my kids reacted to deployments much the way Evertt did, so again, there were tears. While it might seem that Mason is the strong hero in this story, I would argue that Mia is the strongest of them all because she faces her fears and insecurities head-on.

If you’re looking for a slow-build contemporary romance with a hot military hero and a sweet but strong heroine, I think you’ll really enjoy this book.
