NICUnurse’s Review of Trick Play by Lea Coll
Trick Play is a novella set in Kristen Proby’s With Me In Seattle Universe and written by Lea Coll. It is part of the Quick Snap Novella: Championship Edition of books from Lady Boss Press. It is written as a standalone title. I first found this author when I read her novel set in KP’s Boudreaux’s Universe and have enjoyed all of Lea Coll’s book since that time, so there was no question as to whether or not I was going to read this one. I also highly recommend her Annapolis Harbor series if you’re looking for more emotional, longer reads!
On to Trick Play. Payton and Clay had one night in college that no one else knows about. Years later, when she’s awarded an internship with her brother’s football team, he’s thrilled to see her again. She snuck out the next morning and didn’t leave him a way to contact her. Now, both of them are left wondering whether that long-ago night was as real to the other as it was to each of them. But with her big brother’s warning that she’s off-limits to his teammates and her future uncertain, can they even make a relationship work?
This contemporary sports romance is told from dual points of view (both Payton and Clay) and ends with a HEA. It’s a quick read as the plot moves pretty fast due to the novella length. I liked that both Payton and Clay are down to Earth characters, and even though they are both physically strong and ambitious, they both struggle with deep-rooted self-esteem issues. I also loved how they resolved those issues. There is a little bit of angst, but all in all, the book didn’t feel very heavy to me. If you like short books with hot sports stars that aren’t cocky and strong (both physically and emotionally) female characters, this book is for you. It was an entertaining read for me.
