From New York Times Bestselling Author Sawyer Bennett comes the Chronicles of the Stone Veil, a five book urban fantasy/paranormal romance series. A departure from contemporary romance, the Chronicles of the Stone Veil is a return to fantasy/paranormal romance, where Sawyer started her fiction publishing journey. Readers can expect to find all the elements they love from Sawyer’s books—strong heroines, alpha heroes, and an epic romance—with a fantastical element to add to their reading experience.  You can get the first book in the series, The Revelation of Light and Dark, now!

I always knew I was different.

From a young age, my mind has been plagued with things only I could see. Some hauntingly beautiful, others completely terrifying. Never knowing if these visions were real or just hallucinations, I learned how to lock them down and ignore them. I learned to take solace in the relative anonymity of city life and find peace in the rainy days my city of Seattle is known for.

But just when I think my life is getting on track and my dreams are achievable, a moment of weakness causes me to learn a hard and fast lesson.

My entire existence has been a lie.

Now I’m faced with a new reality that’s as implausible as it is fantastical. Filled with realms and veils, light and dark, fae and daemons, gods and angels—things I don’t understand but am forced to acknowledge. It doesn’t help that the man teaching me about my unique gifts is the gorgeously handsome Carrick Byrne, one of Seattle’s richest and most powerful men.  He intimidates, annoys, and intrigues me all at the same time. I don’t trust him and yet there’s no one else to help me.

No longer certain who to put my faith in, what to believe, or how I fit into it all, one revelation is clear…

The world as I know it will never be the same again.

The Revelation of Light and Dark is book one of the Chronicles of the Stone Veil series and is best enjoyed if read in series order.

Fly Girl’s Review:

I wasn’t sure about this story at the beginning of the book. There is no hook in the first couple of chapters, you just have to keep reading with blind faith. Thank goodness I don’t like to DNF books and kept reading because it definitely got good. There are a lot of interesting characters introduced in this first book which off sets the slow pace of it. There isn’t too much world building since it is more dystopian than fantasy. I think that will change in the upcoming books though since we have more than one plane of existence in the story background.

Finley is just another girl in the world who suffers from a mental health disorder and is trying to cope and make it in the world. At least that’s what she’s been made to believe by everyone in her life. Turns out, she isn’t crazy, she’s gifted. Carrick is nice enough to blast his way into her life and then destroy everything she thinks she knows about the world and herself. It’s a little daunting to find out you aren’t mentally ill one day, when only yesterday you were trying to hold the grip you had on reality.

Carrick is an enigmatic jerk who lacks empathy for people around him and thinks he is superior to everyone. I think as the mystery goes, Finley is right to not trust him with everything she can do and the things she learns on her own. I don’t know what his role is in the tale yet, but I’m sure we are about to find out with the way this first book ended.

Sawyer has written some super strong characters in this series, I’m surprised they are all able to hold their own against one another on the page and not overwhelm the story. Keep that in mind as you read, because these characters are amazing in their own right, but if they can come together and formed a team…wow, that would be explosive. Actually, I want all the characters I’ve read about so far to get a HEA. The series is 5 books, so it’s possible. Oh, and did I mention emotion???She has so much of it, you almost hate each of them a little bit due to the anger that seems to radiate off the page. There is also respect and love and sadness that jump out at you and twist you all into knots. This isn’t a story for the faint of heart, I think she’s taking us down a dark alley to get on a super twisty rollercoaster that may make us wish we hadn’t had that last coney dog.

So to keep it short and sweet since you’ve heard a lot from me this week, I’ll close with I’m giving this a 4 of 5 because of the pacing of the story and because there is a cliff hanger. I know, it’s a series what did I expect, but I can’t go back on my dislikes now. Good thing Sawyer must hate them too since she is releasing the next books pretty quickly so we don’t have to wait very long to continue it. Perhaps as the story builds I might begin to favor the cliff hangers. Anyway, as I always say, pick this one up and read to your hearts content knowing the next book comes out on Mar 2nd. I’ll be reviewing that one shortly after it releases also.
