Delicious best friends-to-lovers stand-alone romance from #1 NYT Bestseller Lauren Blakely!

The second the test-the-sexy-scenes offer landed in my lap, I said yes.
After all, I’ve been damn curious about a few things I’ve read in romance novels. Do buttons truly go flying across the floor when you rip off a guy’s shirt? Is staircase nookie hella hot or does it leave you with a big old bruise mark on your back? And don’t even get me started on all that panty shredding, and whether it even works.
Time to find out as I embark on Project Romance Novel Scenes Research, at the request of my hotshot book editor bestie.

All I need is a willing scene partner. Enter Tristan, my best guy friend. The witty, tell-it-like-it-is, bearded hottie volunteers for the experiment.

He’s also the guy who gave me the most devastating, toe-curling kiss of my life ten years ago. But nothing has happened since then.
And nothing will come between my panties and our friendship now since we have a plan to keep it PG.
But once the buttons start flying, all bets are off…

S-E-X AND OTHER SHINY OBJECTS is a standalone romance in the BOYFRIEND MATERIAL series. The other titles are ASKING FOR A FRIEND, ONE NIGHT STAND-IN, SPECIAL DELIVERY and YOUR FRENCH KISSES.

Fly Girl’s Review:

I mostly listen to Lauren Blakely’s novels and she has some amazing narrators, so when I do read a book of her’s, I here those voices in my head now. This book is a great idea, I mean how many of us don’t want to know if all those romantic things we read in romance novels are actually do-able or really romantic. Lauren obviously takes this premise to the height of shenanigans. Which is why I love her books. She always finds a way to make things interesting.

Peyton and Tristan have had the hots for each other for a long time, however they have each been going about things differently. Peyton has been keeping him at friendship arms length afraid to lose what she does have and Tristan has been trying to figure out how to let Peyton know he loves her. So for years these two have been working on opposite paths to a relationship. In walks Peyton’s editor friend with the best medicine they didn’t even know they needed. I tell you all of this because we all know we get a HEA with Lauren, it’s just how she gives it to us that makes the journey so enjoyable.

Peyton owns a lingerie store that isn’t doing very well considering the competition that just put out their sign and her regular customers are seen, more often than not, making a right to it, rather than a left to her store. So this brilliant idea she gets to start up her blog again and the idea from her friend makes her believe she can turn her business out look around too with it. It’s just getting someone to get up to some shenanigans with her. Tristan on the other hand is taking care of his business and his younger brother and on top of that is trying to figure out a way to get Peyton to look at him as more than a friend. So why shouldn’t he be the helper in this scheme of Peyton’s?

So there we have the setup. Both are into each other, but afraid to speak up, so the shenanigans must ensue. Through out the next couple of weeks they take on the challenges of ripping off panties, sex on the stairs, ripping off shirt buttons…you get my drift. Anyway, the realize they are into each other a lot more than they are sure the other is ready for. But in the end, they realize the fun they had only makes their friendship stronger and so a love connection might do the same thing. I mean he has seen her mostly naked.

I love how complicated Lauren makes her characters, like Tristan caring for his brother and Peyton’s love of lace and trying to keep her business open. They are real people dealing with real issues of everyday folks. We can commiserate with them, cry with them, laugh with them, be elated by them. This is what makes her books about more than just laughs and romance, but about real life and the struggle to just find a little bit of happiness in the midst of it all. I’m giving this book a 4.5 of 5 because it moved me, kept me entertained, gave me a few laughs, took me to another place away from my own troubles. Isn’t that what the best fiction is supposed to do…Oh, and there was a Happily Ever After involved. What more can we ask for.
