NICUnurse’s Review of Lethal Protector by Kaylea Cross

Lethal Protector is book three in Kaylea Cross’s Rifle Creek series. As a long-time fan of her writing, this book did not disappoint. It can be read as a stand-alone title, but as a series junkie, I always recommend reading the entire series in order. Her Rifle Creek series is only three books, so it’s not a huge investment of time or money, but it is so worth both!

NICUnurse’s Rating: It feels like I’ve been waiting for Braxton and Tala’s story forever, so I was more than excited to dive into this book. With tantalizing glimpses into each of these characters in the previous books, my anticipation level was at an all-time high, and I was not disappointed by any stretch of the imagination. And I honestly don’t think she could have done these two main characters any better justice than she did. Both Tala and Braxton are heroes in their own right. They’ve overcome so many obstacles separately. But put them together, and they were a force to be reckoned with and no match for this villain, no matter what he (or nature) threw at them. Braxton and Tala complemented each other so well, and I’m glad they both figured that out eventually.

Lethal Protector was hands down one of my favorites of Kaylea Cross’s books to date. Maybe it’s because I’d waited for what seemed like forever for this book, but I think it’s more because I don’t think a story has ever fit any of her characters better than this one fit Tala and Braxton. Don’t get me wrong. I’ve never felt like she’s done her characters in any of her books any injustice. But this was just so much more. It was a bit of a slow burn between these two, and neither one was pushy with the other even once their feelings for each other were out in the open. They were honest with each other, and despite all of her feelings toward Braxton, Tala was unwilling to compromise what she wanted for her future. I would have been more than disappointed in her if she had. I’m honestly sad to see this series end because I genuinely fell in love with the entire cast of characters and would love to see Rylee get her own book in the future.

Kaylea Cross is at the top of my 1-click author list and one of my top go-to romantic suspense authors for a reason: she writes such wonderful characters and does suspense so, so well, no matter what world she’s creating. I’ve read and re-read so many of her books since I found her and will continue to do so. You can’t go wrong with any of her books, in my humble opinion. And each series she’s written is more than worth your time and money invested into it. And the Rifle Creek series is no exception. But if you have to pick just one book in this series to read, this would be the one to choose!
