“It’s another super inventive work…Annika Martin is becoming one of my go to writers when I want to be surprised.” -Fly Girl

This standalone romcom is set in the same world as The Billionaire’s Wake-up-call Girl, Most Eligible Billionaire, Breaking the Billionaire’s Rules, and The Billionaire’s Fake Fiancee!!

I may be a shy, lowly letter carrier, but when my beloved apartment building is threatened by a mysterious and reclusive billionaire, I’m willing to push the envelope. I’m going to march right up to Malcolm Blackberg’s fortress of fierceness and deliver a cease-and-desist notice he can’t refuse.

Only, no sooner do I get inside his gilded doors than things go sideways–fast. I’m mistaken for Malcolm’s court-ordered emotional IQ coach, as if I’m acting out a wacky postal carrier cosplay.

They drag me in, a sacrificial lamb for the big bad. Make that big, smolderingly sexy bad.

So I make up a lesson involving a story about our building as he glares and fumes. Can he tell that I have no idea what I’m doing?

Before I know it I’m flying around the country, up close and personality testing the most devilishly exasperating man I’ve ever met.

He’s scary for sure…but the way he sometimes looks at me turns my knees to jelly and has me writing love letters to his gorgeous eyes, his mouthwatering smile, his impressive…package.

Our coaching sessions are getting hot-hot-hot, but I can’t let my guard down. If he ever finds out I’m a first-class fake, I’ll lose everything I’ve ever loved in this world…

Fly Girl’s Review

I know I always say this about Annika’s stories, but it’s true! It’s another super inventive work. It’s like she looks for the most outlandish ideas and puts them into a romance novel. I wish she published more often because I could read her every day and never get tired. This one has us working with a US Postal worker and an Executive Coach scenario of mistaken identity. I know the postal worker is not a great profession to be in right now or probably to write about, but she makes Noelle the kind of postal worker we want today.

Malcom on the other hand has this rough exterior but is a softy inside when he is interested in something. Their first chance meeting shows Noelle this and makes her hope he is redeemable. Malcom is just a businessman who wants to make more money and find his next negotiation fix. He has issues with liars and cheaters, so when he finds out one of his own is a liar, he kicks out on his @ss in spectacular display of a power-hungry low-life. The courts decide in favor of said liar and mediate for Malcom to have Emotional Intelligence training with an Executive Coach.

After an emotional elevator ride disaster, Noelle ends up in front of Malcom’s assistant with the coach’s business card and suddenly she is the Executive Coach. Of course Noelle tries to deny it, but then she sees an opportunity to change his mind about tearing down her building for a project. I mean isn’t it Empathy she needs him to see so he changes his mind. So Noelle pulls up her big girl panties, grabs her favorite butterfly ties and takes Malcom on.

That sums up the main story line, but what isn’t in there is how Annika figures out how to make this mistaken identity work, we need a hacker, we need more plans for Malcom’s training, we need more leave from work. All of these things are what Annika fills in for us. She’s thought of everything–well almost. I’m not going to spoil it. She also delves into the negotiation process really well from the usurpers point of view and I was really interested to see it included his feelings of high, low, and uncertainty. She gives us a few fun characters that add a little spice to the story. Through all of this she continues to show Malcom’s inner emotions and thoughts as he becomes more and more enamored with Noelle. There are some sex scenes that are going to slay you and a few scenes with baked goods. And, and I can’t forget the crazy but true hedgehog analogy she puts into the world.

As you can see there is way more to the story than just the blurb and everyone needs to read this one to see what inventive looks like. I’m giving this a 5 of 5 and I’m pretty sure it’s going to make my Top 10 list for the year. Stay tuned for that thought. Final thoughts, pick this book up and get ready for a binge read you are going to want to see what is around each corner of this story. Annika Martin is becoming one of my go to writers when I want to be surprised. I can’t wait for the next one!!

Annika Martin loves fun, dirty stories, hot heroes, and wild, dramatic everything. She enjoys hanging out in Minneapolis coffee shops with her writer husband, and also likes birdwatching at her bird feeder alongside her two stunningly photogenic cats, especially when she should be writing. She’s heavy into running, music, saving the planet, taking long baths, and consuming chocolate suckers. She’s worked a surprisingly large number of waitressing jobs, and has also worked in a plastics factory and the advertising trenches; her garden is total bee-friendly madness and her most unfavorite word is nosh or possibly fob. A NYT bestselling author, she has also written as RITA award-winning author Carolyn Crane.
