Fly Girl’s Review

I listened to this one on audible that’s why it’s taken a bit to get a review out. The COVID-19 pandemic has really slowed my audio listening since I’m missing my 1 hour a day of commute time to and from work. It’s starting to take its toll on my book numbers for the year. Several of us have a bet on who can read more and I think I’m going to be paying up even though I’m already at 65 books. I know you all came here to read about the book so get back to it.

This one is a little different from the previous ones in the series. There isn’t any danger while trying to find a home for haven in it. It is all about being a bodyguard and the dangers that job comes with. It is also about a girl set adrift. early in life, and finally finds a home in the least likely of places.

Roark knows exactly where he fits into the world and because he’s made himself King he is right where he wants to be. Casey on the other hand is trying to figure out where she fits in now that Haven has found a landing place that is good for everyone and doesn’t look as if they’ll need to move locations ever again. Casey has always been the protector with her shadow skills who could sneak up on anyone and listen in or take them out unseen. This particular skill has made her isolate herself in ways none of her friends can imagine–Least of all her brother from another mother. So she takes a dangerous job in a city she doesn’t know to try to find the action she needs and get out from under her brother.

Roark’s special powers make Casey visible to him even when she should be invisible and it drives her mad. However she’s the bodyguard and he and his daughter are the prize his enemies want. She is very keen on the ways of miscreants and criminals which makes her perfect for the job. Also, she isn’t afraid of Roark’s powers instead she’s rather intrigued. He on the other hand is enamored with that fact. Usually he can’t get close to anyone because of his powers, but since Casey is used to hiding hers he isn’t afraid to open up and share some of himself with her.

During some great action packed escapades they learn to trust each other and to leverage the powers of each other. During the journey to figure out who is trying to kill him and steal his daughter they play pranks on one another and become very close in the biblical sense. Lucky for Casey she gets her Happily Ever After at the end of their journey and discovery of the full plot. Thankfully both she and Roark realize they are better off as a team than they are alone–and love wins again in this crazy new world of Eve’s imagination.

We are very lucky she indulges us so in the journey to HEA. Her imagination makes the unimaginable become real for us and weaves these ever progressing stories through the lives of colorful characters. This one wasn’t my favorite of the stories, but it was still good and necessary to move the whole series plot forward. I think more of the series plot will be told in the last two books. We will just have to wait a little time for them. I’m giving this a 4 of 5 because it didn’t resonate with me as much as the others. The series overall is something else though. I’m in love with this new Earth she is building. I do suggest you read in order as she continues the stories of the previous couples in this book.
