As an IT expert and hacker extraordinaire, Wren Nelson is no stranger to discovering all sorts of secrets online.
He’s a warrior…when he’s behind his computer, that is.
And awkward at best in social situations.
His long hours with Blackbridge Security don’t really provide many opportunities to go out and meet people.
So what is he supposed to do when a wrong delivery—a questionably large box of bedroom toys—ends up in his hands instead of its intended target?
Online stalking has always been his go-to to accumulate information on people, but only seeing Whitney through digital displays isn’t enough. Approaching her doesn’t seem like the best plan either.
What he doesn’t know is that this woman is possibly the only one in existence able to give him a run for his money.

NICUnurse’s Review of Shot in the Dark by Marie James
Shot in the Dark by Marie James is the second book in this author’s Blackbridge Security series. The books are standalone titles, so you can jump in with this book, or you catch up with book one, Hostile Territory, and go from there. Personally, I’m a series junkie, but…you do you.
What I Liked Most About the Book: Wren, our reluctant and socially awkward hero with his sidekick, Puff Daddy. He’s a delightful combination of confident and awkward, leaning more toward the awkward side. But he’s got just enough swagger behind the keyboard to keep him from being the quintessential nerdy IT guy. His character keeps it real. One minute he’s the king of his castle, and before he knows what’s hit him, he trips or does something equally cringe-worthy that keeps him from being obnoxiously cocky. I love romantic suspense, even in my TV shows. And Wren reminds me of one of my favorite characters in the TV show, Bones. In my humble opinion, Wren is totally Lance Sweets, only a computer genius rather than psychology/profiling genius–adorable but nerdy and confident in his work but socially awkward. And when he gets the girl, he goes all in. Whitney is no slouch, though, and is Wren’s perfect match. I loved that she had purple hair (I do) and totally rocked it!
NICUnurse’s Rating: In the interest of full disclosure, I will admit that there are scenes in Marie James’s books that push my hard limit of what I’m comfortable reading. But there’s something about her writing that keeps pulling me back. Shot in the Dark severely tested that hard limit at times, but the storyline and the mystery just wouldn’t let me walk away from this book without finishing it. That sounds negative, but it’s really not. I’ve walked away from books that pushed my hard limit a lot less, so the fact that I was engaged enough in the plot and the main characters to push past that says a lot. However, if that’s something you don’t want to read, beware. Me? I can skim in uncomfortable scenes if the storyline is good enough, and this one was. And at this point, I’m kind of invested in this group of guys from Blackbridge Security and want to see them all get their HEAs.
I give Shot in the Dark by Marie James 4 out of 5 propellers!
