Dare to Tempt by Carly Phillips is the second book in the Dare Nation Series which follows the lives of the Prescott men, a family of rich billionaire sports heroes. The first book, Dare to Resist, is the story of Austin Prescott, ex-football player turned sports agent. Dare to Tempt is the second book and focusing on the smooth-talking quarterback, Damon Prescott. The third book drops in October 2020 and focuses on the bad boy of baseball, Jaxon Prescott. You will have to wait until a while for the final installment, Dare to Stay, when the savior, doctor Braden Prescott finally comes home. It is going to be a hot one today, in more ways than one, so grab your sweet tea and let’s chat about Dare to Tempt by Carly Phillips.

Damon Prescott’s life had just gone from golden to shit in an instant. Not only had one violent football play gone wrong, but he had also tested positive for performance-enhancing drugs in a “random” test and had been immediately suspended from playing. With his head still pounding as a result of the concussion, Damon has to figure out how he has tested positive on the random test as well as the follow-up when no unknown supplements went into his body. His only ray of hope is to prove himself innocent with the help of his biggest nightmare, his sister’s best friend – Evie Wolfe, a licensed Private Investigator. Evie is not Damon’s usual type but he cannot get her out of his mind.

Evie Wolfe comes from a family with a long history of public service. With a father and four brothers in public service, it was a no brainer that Evie would follow in their footsteps. But a relationship gone bad left Evie questioning her abilities and six months ago she left her job as an investigator for the Miami District Attorney’s office and opened her own Private Investigator’s business. Evie is great at her job but needs a high-profile case to get her new career jump-started which is why her best friend, Bri Prescott, called for her to work on her brother’s case. In order to get into places that a regular PI can’t go, Evie needs to pretend to be Damon’s girlfriend but convincing the high-profile jock who has a reputation for sleeping with women and sending them away might be easier said than done. She might have to drop the jeans, leather jacket, and scuffed books in order to prove that she can look like one of his typical women. What Evie doesn’t know is that her ripped jeans and leather jacket have already caught the attention of Damon.

Carly Phillips is known for “alphalicious” heroes and romance to “set your heart on fire” and Dare to Tempt does not disappoint. All it takes for Damon to turn from a hot jock to an alphalicious hero is for Evie’s ex-stalker to show up again. Evie might be a tough PI but there is something about her that makes Damon want to leave behind his playboy ways and take care of her but he has to convince Evie that his feelings are real and he’s not just playing a part for the investigation. When a Prescott man falls in love, he falls hard and fast. I really enjoyed this book even though it ventured a little toward instalove. You know that I love books about people in public service and am very critical about how they are written. There were a few scenes involving Evie’s stalker that I felt could have been handled differently. Despite that, I really enjoyed the characters and all of their different personalities and look forward to reading others in the series.

My rating for Dare to Tempt by Carly Phillips….4 out of 5 propellers!
