Trinity Jordan leads a quiet, normal life: working from home for the Hive, a multifunctional government research center, and recovering from the incident that sent her into a tailspin. But the life she’s trying to rebuild is plagued by mishaps when Li Wei, her neighbor’s super sexy and super strange nephew, moves in and turns things upside down.
Li Wei’s behavior is downright odd—and the attraction building between them is even more so. When an emergency pulls his aunt away from the apartment complex, Trinity decides to keep an eye on him…and slowly discovers that nothing is what it seems. For one thing, Li Wei isn’t just the hot guy next door—he’s the hot A.I. next door. In fact, he’s so advanced that he blurs the line between man and machine. It’s up to Trinity to help him achieve his objective of learning to be human, but danger is mounting as they figure out whether he’s capable of the most illogical human behavior of all…falling in love.

Fly Girl’s Review
You have to listen to this one. It is like a radio program from the 40’s with all the special effects and voice changes. At first I was a little skeptical about it, but continued to listen because I just can’t quit a book. After about chapter four I was hooked. I started listening to this about a month after it came out, but was unable to get too far into it before another book on my commited schedule came up and I started working from home so I wasn’t able to listen on my commute. When I did pick it back up, it hooked me right in and listened non-stop to it.
You can tell almost immediately that something is off with Trinity, but you aren’t sure what until about a third of the way through the book. She then strings you along through the rest of it leaving only bread crumbs to figure out why it seems like Trinity and Li have been acquainted for much longer. But as the say goes, all things will be revealed in time.
Alyssa questions the ethics and potential realities of what Artificial Intelligence could look like and whether they would have souls after enough time learning. It’s interesting because I think the world is on the cusp of questioning this exact line of thought with how fast technology is improving. Think about how Amazon’s algorithm learns about your tastes and how Alexa is become more personalized by using your name and inflections in her speech for certain statements. I know it isn’t A.I. yet, but it is the beginning of how it’s created. Ethically she talks about how would our treatment of them change as they developed more human characteristics that weren’t built in, but learned and interpreted as the A.I. changed.
The love Li and Trinity feel for one another is tough and true and Alyssa proves this by telling us the story from both points of view as they discover what it is about each other they love and draws them together. If two people can come together again after being torn apart, I’m pretty sure that is true love, even if one is a giant computer.
I’m giving this a 5 of 5 because I love second chance romance, mystery, anything that makes me think, and a HEA. She gives us all that and more in this one. Definitely a must listen I think, but I’m pretty sure it would be awesome in any format.
I was pretty sure I’d read some other works of Alyssa’s, but when I went back to check, the stats showed I hadn’t. Now that I know what I’m missing out on, I’ll be sure to pick up more of hers in the future. This one is going to make my Top 10 list most likely. The story is simply so unique that it will leave a lasting impression probably for years to come. Rumor has it there will two more books in this universe. I’m unable to confirm this though. I simply can’t wait.
