A Harmless Little Game:
Four years ago I lost my virginity on live, streaming television. Too bad I wasn’t awake for it. The video went viral. Of course it would. A Senator’s daughter on camera? Wouldn’t you click “share”? Besides, that’s what three of the four guys in the video did. Share. They shared me. But that fourth guy? The nondescript one in the background in the upper left corner of the screen, just sitting on the couch? The only one who did nothing? Not one single thing. That was my boyfriend, Drew. And that was the last time I saw him. Until today, when my father—now on a path to the White House—hired him as head of security for my new team as I return home after four years of “recovering” in an undisclosed location that involved white lab coats, needles, pills and damage control. You see, the other three guys never went to jail. Never had charges pressed. Never faced consequences. Until today. Game on. * * * A Harmless Little Game is the first in this political thriller/romantic suspense trilogy by USA Today bestselling author Meli Raine.
A HARMLESS LITTLE RUSE:
She has no idea what she’s doing. Loose cannons never hit their targets.
And they take out plenty of collateral damage.
Four years ago Lindsay experienced the unspeakable right before me, and I couldn’t stop them.
But that’s all changed now.
When her father, Senator Bosworth, contacted me to ask — demand — that I protect her, it was a second chance. A shot at redemption.
An opportunity to right an unspeakable wrong.
Controlling Lindsay as she seeks her revenge on the monsters who hurt her won’t be hard.
Containing my own out-of-control feelings for Lindsay and keeping up this ruse of cold-blooded distance will be.
Even harder than admitting to her what really happened that night four years ago.
It turns out I don’t have to, though.
Someone else did it for me.
And I’ll make sure they regret it.
A Harmless Little Plan:
Turns out there was a second video from that awful night four years ago. Mine wasn’t the only tape.
Too bad mine wasn’t the worst.
Drew can’t protect me no matter how hard he tries, but the roles are flipped now. I have to help him, but I’m not wired that way. Not anymore. That one night changed me more than anyone knows.
More than anyone could predict.
Three men think they’re above the law. They’re right.
But I’m willing to go beneath the law to make sure they never harm anyone else. Their threats don’t scare me.
When you have nothing left to lose because someone took it all away, you create the most dangerous creature imaginable.
Me.
Game over.

Fly Girl’s Review:
Back when this was first released, I was so bummed my schedule wouldn’t accommodate one more book, so I put it on my TBR pile. Then the first one was free in audio and that was all it took. I’m going to review the whole series because you can’t just listen to one. You will NEED to listen to the rest before your nerves will allow you to rest. I binge listened this series and it will be making my Top 10 list for romantic suspense. She has a way of sucking you into the story as if you are a player with skin in the game. This one is both a political thriller, mystery and romance, so you get like a 3 for 1.
The story starts out with a very anxious girl who is a daughter to a public figure with a horrible story to tell of abuse, neglect, and public humiliation. Her whole life has been controlled by her father from where she sleeps to who her therapists are for years and because he is up for re-election, she is being brought back into the fold to play the dutiful daughter. Little does her father know, she is much stronger than he can imagine and no amount of exerted control is going to change her plans for revealing who did these horrible things to her or her revenge. It’s that simple. She is out for blood. Personally, I don’t blame her.
Along the way, she discovers she wasn’t the only one abused that night or in the following years. She also realizes her father has been manipulating a lot of people in the circle. Eventually Drew and Lindsay realize they were both hurt that night and begin to discover they each have plans a foot to take down those involved. Once they realize they are both victims, they start to trust one another and work on a joint plan. That is when things get crazy.
Meli writes here suspenses so well, it’s like she has a plan of how frequently and how big the bread crumbs need to be to keep you engrossed in the story. Whatever her strategy, it works. I’m glad I waited until all three books came out before I dove into the first one. I would have been miserable if I’d had to wait after her cliffhangers for the next book. I’m guessing all her series are like that, so if you like the blurb of the first in a series, be sure they are all out or you will want to strangle her. But for me I’d love to hug her if I ever get the chance to meet her. She’s put a renewed faith in me that romantic suspense can fulfill my need for adventure and are just as strong as any other romance. This one is getting a 5 of 5 from me.
