In a Deviant Future, the world has been reshaped. Humanity has been changed. Yet despite it all, one thing does survive–love. An exciting new dystopian romance FOR ADULTS from New York Times bestseller, Eve Langlais.
Only Gunner can give her the one thing she’s been yearning for. Love.
New Earth isn’t a kind or gentle place, so Gunner isn’t entirely surprised when a freak windstorm leaves him blinded in a strange place. At least he’s not alone.
Sofia might have been banished but she enjoys the freedom of living by her own wits and rules. When a handsome stranger shows up needing help, she agrees if he’ll give her the one thing she’s always wanted.
A child.
Before Gunner can make good on his end of the bargain, a calamity sends them fleeing right into danger. The monsters aren’t what defeats them, though. They end up captured, unwilling guests in a strange new city with a self-proclaimed king.
Since a dungeon isn’t Gunner’s idea of a forever home, he’s breaking free, and when he does, he’s bringing Sofia with him.
If they survive, will Sofia get the child she wants? Or will they both crave something more?

Fly Girl’s Review:
And again she melts my heart with her deviant mind. You can tell this one was written pancer style because just when you think things can’t get any worse for Gunner and Sophia, Eve throws another one at them. Their journey is heartwarming and adventurous all in one package. Don’t let book one’s simple battle of good vs evil lull you into believing this one is the same, because it isn’t.
Book two gives us a real view of the new land called earth and what the meteor and chemical wars have done to her. In grand fashion there are monsters a plenty, not all justified by good or evil, but just are. I think right now this is an important concept for people to understand, sometimes bad things aren’t good or evil, they just are BAD!! Eve reminds us of this fact in this one. The world gets much larger and her world building takes off in this fast paced action filled adventure to find safety, courage, and love.
Gunner and Sofia connect first on a sensual and intelligent level before they both actually see one another. Gunner doesn’t have use of his eyes during their first few days together, so the scar Sofia carries isn’t a factor in whether he loves her or not. It takes Sofia much longer to trust Gunner is truly a good man and not after her for her feminine wiles. When she does figure it out though, they make a great team filling in where the other leaves off in ability, knowledge, and wit. This couple reminds me of so many relationships I see today, where one feel inferior of the other and can’t see why their mate loves them so much. We get fixated on looks so much we forget sometimes there are other reasons to love a person.
I’m giving this a 4.5 of 5 and am wondering if she can keep up the pace of the series all the way through…I don’t want to be let down. These first two books are outstanding stories and world building. I can’t wait to see what Haven is thrown next.
Unfortunately there is so much in this book that pertains to desires of Haven from the last book that I can’t tell you much without spoilers. If you don’t want to see them, you should stop reading now. ****SPOILER ALERT***
SPOILERS***I really loved that in Sofia she was shown that she just couldn’t do good with her ability, but she could also do bad…It was up to her to decide and good and bad was based on judgement and situation. Such as saving Gunner but having to almost kill someone was a good and bad thing. All in perspective. I’m still not quite sure what Gunner’s ability is except he is the luckiest son of a B***h I’ve seen in a while. Hopefully we see more of his abilities in the next few novels so we can make it tangible instead of a feeling. Lastly, hang in there because for a while you are going to think it’s an episode of Ben Hur or Gladiator but I promise it is more like GOT but with lots of supernatural powers being thrown around. And a mind reader…I know there is more to that story!! Through it all, Gunner keeps his promise to find a home for HAVEN!!! I can’t wait to see how that plays out over the next several books. They may have to build from ashes, but knowing them, it will be wonderful.
