Fly Girl’s Review
Well, I’ve finally read my first multiple partner (Reverse Harem) story ever!! Normally I shy away from these, but since it is one of my favorite authors and it’s a whole series, I thought I could ease myself into it. Don’t ask me why I’m not really into them because I don’t know. I will let you know my final feelings when I read the last one in this series.
This paranormal, dystopian story is awesome. I love where it is going and the world building is very unique. Waterworld meets-Sabrina the Teenage Witch…Ok, maybe not. It is a water world esq society but with pirates and fearful land dwellers. The Pirates take and the land dwellers seem defenseless. But the real story is the one that will save the world from the pirates and how her five mates help her find her way to greatness. Yes, I did say five mates.
Each of the five pirates are uniquely intertwined with Reyna and provide her with support in different ways. They are like one big family, of sorts, thrown together from childhood and bound by shared experiences. Reyna is the interloper and must figure out where she fits in this motley group. She has a way with people that puts them at ease and bends them to her will that is unusual among the pirates and their way of life. Having a woman on a ship is not done during these times, but the Captains find their crews are not bothered by Reyna, in fact, they are all enamoured of her and we find out her powers.
We don’t see much of the antagonist in this first book, but he’s out there wreaking havoc on the land dwellers and then the pirate ships. This first book is about the relationship Reyna builds with all her mates and finding her magic. I’m giving this a 4.5 of 5 because, of course, a cliffhanger is involved…Oooh how I hate them. I know they are necessary, but I hate them all the same. The romance isn’t super hot, but the writing is heating up between Reyna and her men. I’m sure the next books will be hotter as Reyna figures out how to navigate the five and becomes more secure in the harem relationship. Please pick this one up. It is a good book, I highly recommend. And please feel free to tell me how you feel about Harem story lines and where they fit on your “hotness” scale.
