Fly Girl’s Review

Be prepared for a gut-wrenching conclusion that will leave you bereft and angered long after see THE END. Another incredible finish to a story in the Sparrow Web universe. I’m calling it a Universe because this is the 4th series she’s written in it. I think it won’t be long before other authors get involved. Aleatha takes the shredded bow for Patrick and Madeline’s story and cleans it up and re-ties it. I always love her series’ as she gives the couple a little more happy at the end of each book and then wraps it up with a bow in the last one. This one the final book starts off gritty and dirty, so be prepared. She also tells you how many books it’s going to be. There is not severe cliff hanger-hangover. Just a nice HEA.

Patrick and Madeline finally realize open honesty, trust and faith are what will keep them together forever. This is how they beat back Madeline’s trauma once she lets go, and boy does she let go. Patrick finally learns some of the down and dirty details of what was done to her by not one, but three crime families including her own father. (That is not a spoiler if you read Flame, if not sorry.) Because of the way Patrick helps her through her meltdown, Madeline finally fully trusts Patrick with all her secrets and he trusts her with all of his–Not all of Sparrow’s organization, but HIS.

Beware, the scenes of her meltdown will rip your heart out if you have any compassion for people at all. She writes profound and deeply disturbing accounts of rape, possible incest, degradation, and base-level human suffering. If you are a crier, be sure to have the box of tissues ready. She also demonstrates how compassion, caring, and just listening can make a difference on whether human trafficking victims come back to life on their own. I’m not sure where Aleatha did her research, but it feels real and deep down I felt compassion for everyone of the pictures I see on the walls in public spaces of missing children and young adults. She makes a very compelling argument for compassion and loving touch for recovery.

I feel like Madeline was a little too soft with Patrick after reading book three. I think she should have been harder for Patrick to catch where her body was concerned. I’m surprised she gave up sex to him in book one so readily after we hear more of her story. She seemed to do everything to save her daughter Ruby when it came to sex, but not with Patrick. With him she was warm and cuddly right away in bed, even though Ruby wasn’t at risk or protection from him at the time. I’m not sure someone in real life in that situation would have caved so easily. That is my only gripe with the book. This book tore my heart out and has left a gaping hole for people I don’t even know. Madeline’s story will remain with you long after you’ve finished the last page.

This series will probably make my Top 10 list. As usual, we will have to wait and see.  BTW, here is some information on human trafficking. If you think you know someone in this situation, please call for help. You may be the only chance they have. We all have to work together to get these people off the streets that are terrorizing our children and young adults through sex and other means.
