NICUnurse’s Review of Wild Love by Meg Benjamin

When I picked up Wild Love by Meg Benjamin, I sincerely thought I had read one of her books and genuinely liked it in the past. Upon further investigation, I found that she actually is a new-to-me author. And anyone who follows my reviews knows I love checking out authors whose books I’ve never read before. And I love small-town romances. While this is book three in her Brewing Love series, I’ve never read books one and two so I can say without a doubt that this is a true standalone book within the series.

How do you make amends when life puts you in a no-win situation. Colin Brooks is trying to do just that. He’s officially hit rock bottom and desperately wants to claw his way back up. Just not exactly to where he was. He wants to be better than that man. Peaches Guidry is an inherently good person who’s entire family has always reached out to help those in need. At times, it’s cost her money and her pride, but never her heart. Will Colin prove to be the one that finally costs her more than ever or is he her happily ever after, after all?

NICUnurse’s Rating: First of all, I liked how this book had just enough backstory to whet my appetite to find out more about the secondary characters in this story without being a huge information dump. If I ever get caught up on all the books I’m reading for the blog, I’ll definitely go back and pick up the first two books in this series. I swear I will…I just have a crazy long must-read list right now. The romance is definitely a slow burn. But Colin is coming from such a place of hurt and of so many wounds, instalove for these two characters wouldn’t have given quite the realistic picture. Colin is quite literally clawing his way back to being a respectable man and citizen of Antero, Colorado. He’s not a bad guy. He’s just had a nearly impossible, no-win situation thrown at him and literally has no one but his loveable pooch when he lands back in the one place that felt like home before he was ripped away. Peaches is one of those people that try really hard to give everyone the benefit of the doubt, and she thinks Colin definitely deserves that much. And a helping hand but not a handout. There are some really touching themes in this story about being kind, open-minded and caring to those that a community may not be so forgiving with. While it may not be a true five star read for me, Wild Love was a well-written, pleasant use of my time. For fans of contemporary, small-town romances and giving people a true second chance at redemption, you’ll truly enjoy this book.
