Blurb
Regina

They call me a princess. But I’ve never been anything but a hostage in my own home until a rival family gets their hands on me.

That’s when I learn what true fear is, and what it really means to be a prisoner.

As I’m held against my will, I wait for my brother to rescue me. But as the days tick by, I’m not sure I’m strong enough to survive my new captor, Dex, or the feelings his presence sparks.

When we meet, he gives me a new name. Little Bird.

But not all little birds are meant to fly. Some will always be kept in cages. However, the longer I’m around him, I start to wonder if he’s going to set me free, or lock me away forever?

Dex
They call me Dex, the enforcer for the Allegretti family, and right hand man to one of the most brutal men in the business.

I had one job. Keep my hands to myself and protect the little bird in my custody.

Simple. Transactional. Just another day in the mob. Then she opens her pouty mouth and turns my world upside down.

Under her spell, I’m asked to betray the only family I’ve ever known. However, the longer I’m around her, I start to wonder if she’s the real prisoner, or am I?

LITTLE-BIRD-E-BOOK

Excerpt

“He’s not good enough for you,” my brother explains.

“Bullsh*t. In your eyes, no one will ever be good enough for me.”

“You’re right,” he admits. “No one ever will be, but I’m going to do my best to make them rise to the challenge before I ever give you away, do you understand me?”

“I hear you loud and clear,” I seethe.

“Good. I should probably give you a heads up. The gathering is for Dex. He’ll be the star of the show, do you think you can handle that?”

Tears pool in my eyes and one slips out, sliding down my cheek. My voice breaks as I ask, “And will all the desperate sluts be attending as well?”

It’s common knowledge that these kinds of parties attract all the women who have yet to be married off. They swarm like hungry wolves, circling any new soldier like a piece of meat that needs to be tied down. My insecurities rear their ugly heads, quietly whispering if I’ll be enough to hold Dex’s attention when we’re already on shaky ground.

Does he even want me anymore?

BlueSeal’s Review of Little Bird by Kelsie Rae

Kelsie Rae, who is known for her Signature Sweetheart Series, shocked us all in October with the release of the Advantage Play Series.  The dark side of Kelsie’s personality has come out as she explores the life of the Romano mafia family and deals with the subject of human trafficking.  This series is not meant for readers under the age of 18 due to adult content. Little Bird is a stand-alone book BUT you really need to go back and read Wild Card (book 1) and Dark King (book 2) in that order to really appreciate the storyline.  Grab your tumbler of whiskey and box of tissues, come into my office, and let’s chat about Kelsie Rae’s Little Bird (read that sentence using your best Godfather voice).

Regina is the sheltered little sister of Kingston Romano.  She was hidden away, protected, and only put on display when it was needed.  Regina was born to be a pawn. Her future involved a marriage of convenience between families. Regina felt like she lived in a prison and snuck out every time that she had the chance.  It was during one of her moments of freedom that her family’s worst nightmare became a reality. Regina was picked up on the street by one of Burlone’s men. She is about to be a pawn in a poker tournament and sold to the highest bidder.

Regina is perhaps one of the strongest female characters that I have seen in quite a while.  Yes, she is young and makes the careless mistakes that immature women make. Don’t confuse immaturity with weakness.  Keep in mind that Regina is the Princess of the Romano family. (Note: I do not own the rights to this song. Regina’s personal anthem should be “You Don’t Own Me” by Grace featured on the Suicide Squad soundtrack. https://youtu.be/8SeRU_ZPDkE. Let me know what you think after you read the book.)

Little Bird will make you mad.  It will break your heart. It will give you hope.  But most of all…it will show you that nothing can keep down a strong woman.  It will also leave you hoping for more stories out of this wonderfully created set of characters.  I can’t wait to see who’s story is next.

With my whiskey tumbler and tissues in my hand, I give Little Bird 5 out of 5 propellers.

About the Author
Kelsie is a sucker for a love story with all the feels. When she’s not chasing words for her next book, you will probably find her reading or, more likely, hanging out with her husband and playing with her three kiddos who love to drive her crazy.

She adores photography, baking, her yorkie, her boxer, and her devon rex. Now that she’s actively pursuing her writing dreams, she’s set her sights on someday finding the self-discipline to not binge-watch an entire series on Netflix in one sitting.

If you’d like to connect with Kelsie, follow her on Facebook, sign up for her newsletter, or join Kelsie Rae’s Reader Group to stay up to date on new releases, exclusive content, giveaways, and her crazy publishing journey.
