Fly Girl’s Review

Honestly, I wasn’t sure I wanted to listen to this book, but I was asked to by Audible since it’s an original production. To my surprise I loved it, as you’ll see from the rest of the review.

It starts out as one of those panty-melting, lust at first site, one night stand hook-ups, but it quickly becomes so much more. We really don’t know a thing about either character until after the one night stand. Then the story gets interesting. It feels like a great summer read of 20 somethings in love which I think for those of us in our 40s is all we all want our romances to feel like…Cause real life is super complicated and we all come with baggage after the age of 30. Emma gives us both sides of the coin in this one, on the one hand, the one night stand is the stuff of dreams, but the morning after brings real life and said baggage into the mix. Both Dean and Lainey have lots of baggage.

Their baggage is so real, I thought maybe Lainey was a friend of mine. As scary as that may be, the fact that she has a boy, without a father, and gets another on the way is awesome, but the surprise on her face when she discovers how her one night stand is in her life with full frontal is hilarious. The way they work out their relationship with all it’s ups and downs as Dean decides how much he wants to be a part of the baby’s life and Lainey’s, with all the complications, makes my heart melt. There is angst, lust, compassion, and love all wrapped up in his details. When they finally decide to make a go of it, his past makes Lainey begin to think twice, but again with all the angst, there is sympathy, compassion, and courage behind her details.

One more great twist to the story is the house Lainey is renovating. This place is the stuff of legends and Southern Living Magazine, but a home filled with lots of good times, some not so great history, but always full of laughs. You won’t be disappointed with this romance and Emma gives us the HEA we always need in the end. The Audible Studios did an amazing job with the narrators and as always made it a pleasant listen that I listened to during more than just my commuter time. I’m giving it a 4 of 5 and can’t wait to see what the next one in the series brings.
