Cait Sidhe’s Review of Manhattan

The Happy Hour series by Kristen Hope Mazzola follows a group of girlfriends, who at first glance don’t really have all that much in common: Sawyer is a Southern Belle with a bohemian side, Harper the self-sufficient lawyer, and Caroline, the nurturing one and not surprisingly a first-grade teacher. Then there’s Annabelle, the only one of the bunch who had been married…and widowed. Annabelle lost her husband unexpectedly and has no desire to get back into the dating scene in spite of her friends urging her in that direction. When she quite literally bumps into Waylon meeting the girls for Happy Hour, dating is the last thing on her mind.

At first, I didn’t care for Waylon at all. He was pushy and impudent, the kind of cocky that isn’t flattering. When Waylon books a private riding lesson with her, she’s backed into a corner. When her horse, Hunter who hates men, rests his head on Waylon’s shoulder – just like he used to do to her husband, Freddy – Annabelle loses it. When the lightbulb finally comes on over Waylon’s head, he apologizes for being an ass and misinterpreting that Annabelle was playing hard to get. I liked him much better after that. He actually becomes pretty perfect. When she tells him that she still loves Freddy, he tells her “Good, you should. You always should.” *Sigh*

“I intend on making her as happy a humanly possible for as long as she will let me.” They all sighed dramatically. Cue the old-timey swooning music from any Disney movie.

I must just be a sucker for sweet, second chance romances and men like Prince Charming here because this short read was pretty much perfect. The ending is definitely a HEA and even had me tearing up, which almost NEVER happens! I can’t wait to spend time with the other girls so watch out for my review of Gin & Tonic coming soon!

5 out of 5 propellers!
