Talen

Dystopian Romance at it’s finest!!

In a world plagued by constant earthquakes and volcanic debris, people in the valley struggle to survive while those on top of the hill want for nothing.

This is where I come in.

I spend my nights plundering supplies in the walled city of Hilltop, and I trade them to the valley people below. I’m not a thief.  I prefer to be known as the head of Lost and Found.

When I discover a beautiful but dangerous competitor in my territory, I also learn she knows more about me than she should. Is she a spy sent by my father, or is she a rebel like me? I don’t trust her, but together we’ll discover secrets that may destroy what’s left of our world.

There have always been those with wealth and those without.

My name is Talen, and I’m here to even the score.

Fly Girl’s Review:

I haven’t read a dystopian romance in awhile and I was glad I decided to read this one.  This is the first book I’ve read of Shay Savage and I find her voice interesting and entertaining.  So you say, “What makes it interesting?”  What if I said the great flood occurs again and the Eastern Seaboard is the only thing that survived?  Yah, that’s what I thought too…can’t wait to read it.

Talen is a guy who wants to help make what’s left of the world better but the only skill he has is as a thief.  So he is modern day Robin Hood with a dark past and skeletons in the closet that would terrify even the toughest person.  He keeps his head down to avoid being recognized and finally finds a community that doesn’t know him at all and he makes it home.  Until another thief enters his territory and tries to take what is his.

Unfortunately for him, not only does he fall for her, but she knows him in ways his friends will never understand.  They both come from the same place.  Aerin has secrets and plans of her own, but somehow is drawn to Talen with a connection she doesn’t understand.  She’s just as fierce as he is.  With their discoveries, they realize they must work together to save what’s left of his community and not get drawn into the politics of their pasts.

I loved the romance between them, it was sharp and gritty, but gentle and caring all at the same time.  The awkwardness of them together fascinated me.  But it was the loyalty they instantly felt for one another that sealed the deal for me.  I’d follow those two anywhere I think.  Shay Savage does a good job of keeping some mystery about their world until the end and that makes you keep reading late into the night.  Ask me, it happened to me.  So this one racks up a fine 4 of 5 on my scale and is very entertaining.
