BLURB:

We thought the games were over, but they’ve only just begun…

She was the puppet.
He pulled the strings.
Now the death toll is rising, what could this mean?
It was all a game.
Of feelings.
Of pain.
Death is just an illusion, or so they say.
She was just a pawn on a piece of his demented board. But there’s only one question left to settle the score…Can dead people really stay dead?

BlueSeal’s Review of  S. M. Soto’s Blood and Chaos

Blood and Chaos is the second book in the Chaos Series by S. M. Soto.  Let’s me be perfectly clear…this is a series that must be read in order.  So, you must read Deception and Chaos first or you will not understand Blood and Chaos AT ALL!  Deception and Chaos ends in a cliff hanger and luckily for me, I was able to read Blood and Chaos immediately following.  Blood and Chaos also ends in a cliff hanger but the next book doesn’t come out until February 2019 so here I am…..hanging and waiting.

I can’t really tell you about Blood and Chaos without backing up to Deception and Chaos so you might want to stop reading to avoid a spoiler alert!  You’ve been warned.  Just saying.

In Deception and Chaos we met Sophia, a college student who has been kidnapped, beaten and mentally abused for nine months, and almost sold into slavery.  She is unknowingly rescued by her brother, Garrett’s “special task force”.   While convalescing at the tasks force’s cover house, Sophia falls in love with Creed, the man with the beautiful gray eyes who rescued her.  The only man that truly makes Sophia feel safe.  Creed AKA Divalo “The Devil” is determined to keep the sweet Sophia away from the darkness of his life but their connection is inevitable as is chaos.  You see, the mastermind behind Sophia’s kidnapping is not finished with her.  Deception and Chaos ends with Sophia getting kidnapped again AND the possible deaths of Creed and Garrett.  Blood and Chaos opens with Creed going home to Chicago to ask his father and la famiglia for help.  He has to find Sophia and his father is the only person who has the power to do so.  You see, Creed is the capo di tutti capi’s son.  His father, Matteo, is the head of the Chicago syndicate, Sabella Mafioso, and in order to get his help, Creed AKA “The Ghost” must return to the family business.  Creed tracks down Sophia but the monster gets away leaving them constantly on guard.  He’s waiting for that one day when everyone will relax a little bit because Sophia is his and no one else is going to have her.

Let me tell you, these two books cover some rough topics:  kidnapping, human trafficking, sex slavery, rape, murder, torture, and let’s not forget there’s always sex, love, and unplanned pregnancy.  S. M. Soto does not hold punches.  Everything is described….the fear, the pain, the smell, the panic, the blood, the heartfelt emotions.  There were times when things got so intense that I had to close the book and walk away for a little while but I always came back.  I can’t promise that this series will end wrapped up in a pretty little happy ending bow.  But, if you love a mafia romance, then this series is for you.  I give both books 4 out of 5 propellers.
