NICUnurse’s Review of Buried Lies by Kaylea Cross
I LOVE a good romantic suspense. Nora Roberts is my all-time favorite author in that genre. But Kaylea Cross isn’t too far behind! I’ve been a fan of her writing for a few years now, and I honestly don’t think you can go wrong with any of her books. And Buried Lies definitely did NOT disappoint.
Poppy left a painful past behind for a fresh start. Her past isn’t what draws the killer to her, but it’s something that so many people face, and her determination to build a new life, even when that past touches it, is inspiring. Noah is the hot cop that lives next door. He didn’t think he was looking for a relationship, but Poppy is everything he never knew he needed. Will their love have time to grow and bloom, or will a killer cut it all short?
There’s so much to this book that it’s hard to say much without spoiling something in it, and I hate spoilers. But what I can say is that this book is very well-written, with strong character development in both the main characters and the minor characters, and a killer so chilling he might give you nightmares! Along with Poppy and Noah’s story, the author begins building interest for the reader regarding other characters and future books. Which is a great technique to hook us and leave us eagerly anticipating the next book. And that’s most assuredly where she left me! I could NOT put this book down, and the author truly had me guessing between 3 potential suspects until the very end, which I love. I read a lot of romantic suspense, so when I’m able to figure out who the killer/bad guy is early on in the story, it tends to make the plot of the book fall flat. And somehow I missed the first book in this series, so I’m off to remedy that right now!
If you love romantic suspense, you are going to want to pick this one up TODAY!
NICUnurse’s Rating: 5 out of 5 propellers!

Like NICUnurse, I missed the first book in Kaylea Cross’ Crimson Point Series but, if you did too, don’t worry. You haven’t missed so much that you will be left confused. You can totally read this book then go back and read “Fractured Honor”, which is Beckett and Sierra’s story, like we are going to do. Then, there is just a short wait until book three “Shattered Vows”, which is Molly and Jase’s story that comes out in January 2019. Believe me; you will want to read all three especially if you love military or police romantic suspense.
What can I tell you that NICUnurse hasn’t and still not spoil the story? Noah is a HOT cop….nope she already said that. Well darn. Noah is the town Sheriff who is working with the FBI to investigate a series of missing women that unfortunately appears to have ties to Crimson Point. Noah’s next door neighbor is the mysterious Poppy who suddenly appeared in Crimson Point, bought the cottage next door to Noah, and opened Whale’s Tale. Poppy is fulfilling her dream of running a business that allows her to indulge in her love of books, baking, and tea parties. Since ending his engagement several years ago, Noah has become a serial dater with no one really catching his attention like the girl next door with the killer body and outstanding work ethic. The big question is this…can either of them push past their previous experiences and trust each other? Oh wait, did I mention there is a serial killer connected to Crimson Point? Yeah, he might have something to say about Noah and Poppy as a couple because you see, she is the flower missing from his secret garden. Yep, he is a sick man who will give you chills.
This was a book that caused an all-nighter. (PLEASE tell me that you’ve had those nights too!) I could not put it down and next thing I knew it was 3 am and I wasn’t finished so what did I do? I finished the book at 4 and then went to sleep. Thank goodness that I didn’t have to work the next day. “Buried Lies” was so well written that I didn’t figure out who the killer was until it was revealed and that doesn’t happen often. Like NICUnurse said, the character development is very strong and I found my favorite character to be a minor one but guess what….her story is in book 3! Without hesitation, I give this book 5 out of 5 propellers!
