The Consequence of Rejection by Rachel Van Dyken
Publication Date: March 26th, 2018
Genre: Contemporary Romance
You know the universe is trying to tell you something when you get struck by lightning, but only after getting hit on by the elderly, almost getting run over by a semi, and running into the one who got away.
Why do they say it like that anyway?
Like I accidentally lost her when she was the one that got in the car with my best friend and left me.
The day after I proposed.
We were eighteen.
I wanted forever.
It’s been ten years.
I tried to move on, tried to get married, had that same wedding crashed by my now best friend who says the only way for me to stop pissing off the universe, is to gain closure with the one woman I can’t forget.
So I do it.
I embark on a journey down memory lane that not only lands me in prison but on the receiving end of a fist fight in front of the entire town, this naturally happens after drunken pool sex, climbing the same girl’s window, and getting threatened at gunpoint by her father.
To say the universe is trying to tell me something anything, is a giant understatement.
I just hope I survive the message.
And then, I hope I survive her—again.
*NICUnurse’s Review of The Consequence of Rejection*
The Consequence of Rejection is the 4th book in this series but it IS a standalone book. I know I say this all the time, but it really is worth the time and money to read all of the books in the series. These are rom-com books that will literally have you laughing out loud to the point of tears at times!
The Consequence of Rejection is Jason and Maddy’s story. Jason and Maddy were best friends, then more, in high school. He was a star football player. Maddy was a cheerleader and his partner in crime. She left him behind to go live her dream in the big city. But that dream fell flat, and life circumstances didn’t help, so she’s back. Living with her parents. After a series of mishaps (that seem to follow Jason when his Not Best Friend, Max, is around), Jason’s friends convince him and Maddy to relive the good ‘ole days in order to get closure. Will these antics bring the closure they think they want, or will they change Jason and Maddy’s minds?
Jason has been around since the first Consequence book, and now we finally get his story. It’s a comedy, but it’s also a second-chance romance kind of story. Along with all of the over-the-top humor that is the underlying theme of all the Consequence books. If you’re a Consequence series fan, all of your favorite characters are back in this story, so you’ll also get updates on them as the book unfolds. And Max-isms… you get SO many Max-isms in this book!
NICUnurse’s Rating: I give this book a solid 4.75 propellers. It’s definitely chock full of the crazy shenanigans we’ve come to expect from Max and the gang. There’s also a bit of a serious side to the story that tugs at your heartstrings, as well. And I’m always a sucker for second-chance romances, especially those that have high school sweethearts finding love with each other once again, years later. Fans of Rachel’s rom-coms will NOT be disappointed. And if you’ve never read one of her rom-com books but you like shows such as Seinfeld, Friends, and The Big Bang Theory, then this is the book (and the series!!) for you!
