Trip 1 FOR WEB

********************************NICUnurse’s Review********************************

Trip is technically the 4th book in this author’s Remember When series. It can be read as a standalone book, but it’s absolutely worth reading the first 3 books from Layla’s point of view first. You just get a richer experience with this story.

Trip and Layla meet as seniors in high school and quickly become friends…but are REALLY attracted to each other. This book is their senior year and their friendship (the good, the bad, and the ugly) through Trip’s eyes.

I first read Remember When back in the summer of 2013. Back then I wasn’t a reviewer or a blogger, but the story touched me in a way that I actually looked up Ms. Torrest on Facebook and sent her a message. See…I’m a child of the ‘80’s and those books took me back to my high school years and were so close to my own love story that they are STILL with me. So fast forward to a few months ago and I see she’s coming out with Trip’s side of the story. I was pretty excited…and even more excited to know I could help promote it now that I’m a book blogger. I purposely did NOT do a re-read of Remember When because I wanted to see how this side of the story affected how I felt about the series as a whole. What it did was remind me how much I loved the series and loved Trip and Layla’s story. It’s not an easy story to read. There are a lot of missed opportunities with these two. And a lot of stubbornness that truly made me wish I could smack them both. But it was pretty spot on when it comes to high school and new/young adult relationships. Think back for a few moments to your own high school relationship(s). While we’d like to look back and believe we were grown up and mature…we really weren’t. So if you expect these 2 to be grown up and mature, you’ll be frustrated with their story.

NICUnurse’s Rating: I’m absolutely giving this book 5 propellers! There are several reasons why. First, it’s a really well-written story. While it might seem easy for an author to write a book like this because most of the plot is already written, it’s not. There’s a LOT of work that goes into books like this. Second, the characters stay true to the original series. (Again…sounds like it would make writing this book easier, but in reality, it doesn’t.) Third, even though I knew the ending, it was a page-turner. I devoured it in about 4 hours and am not so patiently looking forward to the next 2 (I HOPE!!) books. Fourth, there’s the whole backstory regarding Trip’s parents and his rocky relationship with his dad that you don’t get in the first book. Kind of gave me a better insight as to why Trip acts, and reacts, the way he does at times. And lastly…this couple’s story so closely mimics mine and my husband’s story (except he didn’t become a big Hollywood star…just a cool AF fighter guy) that if I ever wanted to write our story, Ms. Torrest would most likely sue me for plagiarism or copyright infringement or something. So there’s a little, itty bit of bias there! If you like new/young adult stories with a lot of angst and rollercoaster emotions, you’ll love this book. Take a chance on it…and then go get the first 3 Remember When books while you’re at it!
