This novel is the 3rd book in this author’s Redemption Harbor series. It is a standalone romantic suspense with an HEA.
Darcy and Brooks were in love with thoughts of a happy forever on their minds. Until Brooks’ dad offered her money to disappear. Thinking she took the money, he cruelly breaks off their relationship. Months later he learns the truth from his dad…she never actually TOOK the money. Brooks knows he screwed up royally but will do anything and everything he can to get her back. But when she hears a conversation she never should have, can he and his partners at Redemption Harbor Consulting keep her safe and thwart a major threat to the town and its people?
In the first two books of this series, we’ve gotten to know Brooks a little. (Don’t worry if you haven’t read the first 2 books…you really CAN read this as a standalone!) He’s UBER rich, super hot, and he’s been burned badly by someone he thought loved him in the past. He’s got major trust issues when it comes to his dad, too. But his dad is supposedly a changed man now, and they are working on their relationship. So it’s no surprise that he misunderstood the situation when his dad offered Darcy money to break it off with him. However, from the very beginning of this novel, you get that Darcy is as sweet and real as they come. So even in the prologue, I wanted to smack him for treating her so badly, even if he really is a pretty alright guy to everyone else! Thankfully they get everything worked out as all the drama unfolds.
Of all the Redemption Harbor books so far, this has been my favorite. It just seemed to flow better and I felt like I got to know the characters better than in the other books. Don’t get me wrong, I’ve enjoyed all the books so far (check out my reviews for them if you don’t believe me!), but this just seemed to suck me into the story faster, entertain me more, and surprise me with the ending a bit more than the others. I mostly loved how Darcy made Brooks really work to win her trust back, but when she needed him the most, she gave him her absolute trust to save her life. They just seemed more…real, I guess, than some of the other characters.
NICUnurse’s Rating: I give this book 4.5 propellers. The characters felt real, the story was pretty page-turning, and the ending was a bit of a surprise to this gal who loves to try to figure out how the suspense is going to unfold before the authors get you to the end. I think my favorite part was the added chapter headers, though! Some were deep thoughts, some were emotional, some were sarcastic, and some were just funny enough to make me laugh out loud.
If you love romantic suspense, you’ll enjoy this book and will be looking forward to the next book in the series right along side me!
