The Harvesting Series
It’s all fun and games until someone ends up undead.
Layla Petrovich has spent her whole life running away from her hometown of Hamletville. Raised by the town’s medium, and dubbed the “weird” girl for her fascination with swords, the last thing Layla wants is to go home.
But when she receives a desperate call to return just as a mysterious outbreak sweeps the country, Layla’s instincts urge her to go. Good thing, because the dead are rising.
Layla, however, isn’t entirely on her own. With her psychic powers growing, surely everything will turn out okay, right?
Not so fast. Just when Layla believes she might survive the apocalypse, a sinister and ancient force rises from the shadows to finish mankind for good.
Because the truth is, we were never alone in this world.

Fly Girl’s Review:
Ok, so I have to kick myself on this one. I never read reviews, I read what we call back blurbs and look at the cover. Well, I’d seen some other stuff by Melanie Karsak that looked good, but when this one came up as a buy 2 for 1 credit in Audible, I figured, what the heck I’ll give it a try and see how I like her writing. Just to clarify, the blurb had none of the key words I look for that would turn me off of the story, like ZOMBIES. I’m not into zombies, never have been. I’m not a Walking Dead fan and I certainly don’t read about them for bedtime stories.
I listened to the first 7 chapters and when it started to talk about the Zombies, I was like, “Whoa, where did that come from?” Then I went and read some reviews and looked at the book blurb on Amazon and felt like kicking myself. I mean I write reviews for a living, but I don’t read them for books I want to pick up. I know crazy town. As my partners Teresa and NICUNurse could attest to, I’m living in my own brand of CRAZY. I just don’t want other people’s opinions to shape my thinking of a story or writer. I think reviews are great if you’re trying to spend money wisely, or are just curious and want a little more of the story before you get invested. So usually I read reviews of the book after I’ve posted mine.
Since the reason I did not finish this one is my mistake, I’m going to give a shameless plug to The Harvesting Series. Here it is. If you love Zombies and are a fan of the Walking Dead this one is for you. It’s got tons of zombies, love stories, a Russian medieval weapons wielder and a little magic. So go ahead and give this series a try. You might even see it on Audible again on the 2 for 1 credit list.
One last thing, Melanie, if you read this please send me a title from your repertoire that doesn’t include Zombies and I’ll look at giving you another try. No hard feelings I hope.
