Navy SEAL Noah Coleman knows how to do two things well: underwater demolition and hand-to-hand combat. So renewing his enlistment is a no-brainer until he receives a message about his cousin’s aggressive terminal cancer. A quick trip home confirms the worst, which means his niece Bella will become his responsibility.
Elementary school guidance counselor Teagan Shaw has known Bella since her son announced the two were best friends. The shy little girl is also on Teagan’s radar because of Bella’s early signs of gifted aptitude. But Teagan is more concerned about the military man thrust into the role of single parent.
While Noah adjusts to civilian life and Eagle’s Ridge, he and Teagan begin forging a friendship. But Teagan has a secret, a shadowy figure from her past who is intent on returning to torment her.
Fall in love with seven sexy and irresistible soldiers who find their courage and heart tested like never before in the battle for love! This multi-author collaborative series of contemporary romance novels is brought to you by bestselling authors Barbara Freethy, Roxanne St. Claire, Christie Ridgway, Lynn Raye Harris, Julia London, Cristin Harber and Samantha Chase. You won’t want to miss a single one!
This book is book 6 in the Seven Brides for Seven Soldiers series. Each book is written by a different author. It absolutely can be read as a standalone book. In fact, it’s the only one of the series that I’ve read, and while I did find I wanted to learn everyone’s story, I didn’t feel like I had missed out on any important details in order to really follow this story.
I love Cristin’s Titan series. I’ve read them all. This book is very different from those books, so I hesitated momentarily on whether to read this or not. But hey… I really like her writing and had a hunch I wouldn’t be disappointed. I don’t get to say this often so I’ll say it now… I was right!!! I was NOT disappointed!
This book is set in the small town of Eagle’s Ridge. And it’s just like any small town you’d imagine. Gossip abounds, and each time a story is passed around, it grows and grows. But tragedy has struck, so Noah returns to civilian life, and to his hometown, to raise his cousin’s daughter after her untimely death. There he meets single mom, and guidance counselor, Teagan and they form a fast friendship…one that’s full of undeniable chemistry. When her past comes back to haunt her, Noah steps up to make sure she and her son are safe.
While the story begins on a hauntingly sad note, it’s actually quite lighthearted in some parts, unlike her Titan series. There are fun, funny, quirky characters that make up this town and you can’t help but fall in love with all the characters. Except for the evil ones. The relationship between Noah and Teagan is intense, but at the same time, they move a bit slow (compared to Titan novels), and that was a refreshing change of pace. It’s also got the suspense that keeps you turning the pages to see how it all ends.
This book is perfect for those that love contemporary romance but aren’t really a fan of military romance that Cristin is known for. However, Cristin’s Titan fans will be happy to know that her writing is just as great in this book as it is in her Titan books.
NICUnurse’s rating: I’m going to give this book a 4.75 propeller rating. The writing was very good, the characters relatable and likable (except for the villains who are hateable like they should be!). The story moved along very well, and it left you with just enough information on all the town’s characters that I want to read all seven books now!
