Fly Girl’s Review:

So as you all know we love our military authors.  S. Lawrence approached me at an event I was at in New Orleans…OK… I lied. I totally approached her when I found out she was an author and a military spouse.  I just can’t help myself.  She was nice enough to give me a copy of her debut novel and, as most of you know, we’ve been inundated with review requests since the RT Convention ’17 so it’s taken me a little while to get to it in my TBR pile.  Gotta say this was totally worth the wait.  I see some big things in her future as an author.

Spoiler Alert:  This has a cliffhanger ending, which you all know I hate and I didn’t hate it any less here.  Now I have to anxiously wait for book 2.  I hope she plans on having me as a stalker till it’s out.  This series is going to be amazing when it’s finished.  She has created an amazing world that I could get lost in.  Magic, Druids, Dragons, Lost Little Girls, Sex, Romance, Angst.  Need I say more?  I know you expect more from the review, so here it goes.

The story is very engaging and kept me reading even after bed time arrived.  There were a few spots I wasn’t so keen on.  One is the way the father discusses his relationship with the mother to their daughter.  I thought it was a little too graphic for that relationship.  The other part was the final fight scene seemed too easy for the way the story progressed during the rest of the book.  It felt a little rushed.  However, book 2 may shed some light on why it was so easy.  We’ll just have to wait and see.

Something that was very intriguing was the relationship between Aislinn and her best friend.  The relationship actually felt real and believable.  She also used modern technology to stay connected to her BFF and I thought that was very smart and in the moment.  I know because when Teresa was in Europe for two years, we communicated exactly the same way.  There were lots of parts where I felt like it was a reflection of my relationship with Teresa, so it felt personal.  I think many who read this will find something that feels personal to them.  There are so many great relationships in this book.  Oh, and did I mention, there are more cute guys than just her Guardian?!

I give it 4 of 5 propellers only because of the cliffhanger ending and that I can’t binge read the whole series.  But S. Lawrence, please think of me when you get ready to release book 2. I’m game for an early review! Thanks for the opportunity to read this one.
