Hate to Want You Cover

Congratulations Alisha Rai!!

Alisha Rai, one of contemporary romance’s brightest stars, makes her Avon Books debut with the first novel in the sexy Forbidden Hearts series!

One night. No one will know.

That was the deal. Every year, Livvy Kane and Nicholas Chandler would share one perfect night of illicit pleasure. The forbidden hours let them forget the tragedy that haunted their pasts—and the last names that made them enemies.

Until the night she didn’t show up.

Now Nicholas has an empire to run. He doesn’t have time for distractions and Livvy’s sudden reappearance in town is a major distraction. She’s the one woman he shouldn’t want . . . so why can’t he forget how right she feels in his bed?

Livvy didn’t come home for Nicholas, but fate seems determined to remind her of his presence—and their past. Although the passion between them might have once run hot and deep, not even love can overcome the scandal that divided their families.

Being together might be against all the rules . . . but being apart is impossible.

Fly Girl’s Review

This is the first book I’ve read by Alisha Rai, and her bio description, “she pens sexy emotional contemporaries…by night.” is totally true.  I really loved this book.  I will definitely “Auto Buy” the next in the series.  So I was given this book at 2017 RT convention, not sure which event, but since it was a pre-release, I knew I had to read it.  From the three of us, I think I got all the prerelease books from RT, so look for more coming your way in the future.

The cover is sexy and I love her interracial story line.  It wasn’t too heavy on the differences between the two cultures, Japanese and American, but she did discuss it a little and showed Livvy’s family history as being third generation immigrants.  She also threw in a little Hawaiian influence that was great and if you’ve been to Hawaii, you know that is a very believable family history.  She explains the differences, but also allows Livvy and Nicholas’ similarities to feel real.  It made the characters believable having a mix of traditions, ideas, parenting styles, and business prowess just like any other modern American family would.

The tension was there from page one and the whole time you just wanted one of them to throw caution to the wind and just say F*** Y** to their families.  However, with the background of the two families and cultures they came from, it was believable that family loyalty would be harder to break than just with an “I Love You!!”   So there we have it, lots of tension, believable family drama, and an introduction of the characters from book two.

The story is really about how two young people could grow so far apart and then figure out how to come back together and appreciate the differences between each other.  Sounds like real life where couples try to come back together through all the changes in their lives and not grow apart.  She just shows it can be done.  Oh, I almost got so caught up in the literary merits I forgot some of the best parts; there was so much more…Steamy Hot Sex to round it out, and a couple of small mysteries:  where has her brother been, who really burnt down the store, and what were their parents really doing together in that car.

Favorite Scene:  When she is at his sister’s and texts him while he’s in the house and she’s in the car.  There is a moment of openness about it that makes you think right away this is the moment they realize their love is stronger than family loyalty.  (Wish it lasted, but you get your HEA anyway)

Least Favorite Scene:  The bar scene with the sister.  It seemed too contrived and wasn’t really necessary to tell the tale.  Although we do get to the favorite scene from there so maybe it was necessary.  I just didn’t dig it.

Finally, this is definitely a 5 out of 5 propeller read.  Please feel free to comment after you read it with your favorite or least favorite scene.  I’d love to hear.  Order Today!!! Alisha, you go girl, keep gettin’ in your writing groove…can’t wait for book 2!!!
