About TOO CLOSE TO CALL:

All-American wide receiver Kyler Tate’s life is about to change. A fairytale college career skyrocketed him to the NFL draft. Adoration and opportunity are thrown in his direction wherever he goes, thanks to being chosen in the first round by the Los Angeles Rage.

None of the accolades mean anything, though, without his high school sweetheart, Bree Justice, by his side. Four years ago, she walked away from Kyler, choosing a quiet life over the flash and notoriety his career would someday bring.

Now he’s back in their Indiana hometown, refusing to leave for Los Angeles without her. Demanding she give their life together a shot. Her heart never stopped bleeding for the love of her life, but Bree’s decision was final. Too bad their wild attraction has only been amplified by their separation, and Kyler won’t quit until Bree is wearing his ring.

Review

Too Close to Call is the a novella within the Romancing the Clarksons Series. I honestly don’t think Tessa add this story in her plan for the series. For those of you that don’t know about the series its about four siblings that go on a road trip from Southern California to New York City after their mothers passing to jump into the bay after the new year.

This novella, takes place after the third book, Too Hard to Forget, in the series and the final book that comes out in Sept. Too Close to Call, is not about any of the Clakson Siblings, but we do meet Kyler in Too Hard to Forget. In fact Kyler is a key plot point in Peggy and Elliot’s story arc. So it’s not really surprising Tessa gave him his own novella. This is why I don’t think this novella was planned originally. With that said I’m glad Ms. Bailey added it in. Kyler was a sweet and gracious character who needed his story told. Especially after the insight he gave his coach.

Too Close to Call takes place a year or two after Too Hard to Forget, because if I remember correctly Kyle was a sophomore in that story. (I could be wrong though) Now Kyler has most likely graduated (hopefully) and just in the NFL Draft. He has everything he wants except one thing or rather person and that’s the love of his life… Bree. They’d been together since they were kids but Bree broke his heart their senior year on Prom night when she broke up with him.

She had her reasons, not extremely good ones, but she did what she thought was needed. Little did she know her decision wouldn’t solve anything nor would it replace someone else’s.

To be completely happy Kyler has two weeks to make Bree see they should be together. That they’re better together then a part, and that he wants to make her his wife. Two weeks, then he has to report to training camp in California.

Easy, right? … Not!

Even Tessa’s good guys, those guys that are Saint like, always have to work for their women. Mainly because those women are very stubborn and bull headed, and Bree is not exception. I wanted to smack Bree upside the head a few times, I’ll be honest. She took being a martyr to an extreme in my opinion. I get why she did it, but as I said before you can’t make up for someone else’s mistakes, or decisions. Bree wholeheartedly wanted to give up her dreams, wants and desires because another person. Yet instead of talking to Kyler or anyone else about her change of plans she made two sets. One everyone else knew about and another that only she did, until she broke up with Kyler.

Four years later, Kyler is done playing fair. What war is this small town good guy willing to wage? Find out in Too Close to Call.

“Uh…” She gave up pretending to breathe normally, her neck ceasing to support her head. “Ky, please…”

And then she felt it. Tiny bites along the insides of her thighs, branding her through the cotton leggings. Slow, precise, just enough pressure. Commanding her neck to play ball, Bree looked down to find Kyler’s eyelids at half mast, his white teeth sinking in every couple inches, his own chest and stomach shuddering in and out, his nipples in tight points. At the sight, the walls of Bree’s core constricted and released with enough force to send a rattling gasp flying from her mouth.

Kyler.”

“Bree?”

“Just…”

“Yeah.”

His double grip beneath her knees vanished, but before her legs could fall, Kyler was inserting his hips to catch them. One arm snaked around the base of her spine, sliding her forward and out of the machine…and then there she was. Legs wrapped around her ex-boyfriend’s waist, heart pounding, moisture pooled between her thighs, their mouths separated only by a matter of an inch.

“You wore that cologne on purpose,” she breathed. “Admit it.”

His grin flashed. “Guilty as charged and unrepentant as a sinner.”

Her gasp only widened his smile. “Bragging about sinning now, are you, Kyler?”

“You say my name all shaken up and sexy like that when you want me to kiss your pretty mouth.” Hunger made his tone sound like two knives sharpening each other. “I reckon nothing has changed.”

About Tessa Bailey:

Tessa Bailey is originally from Carlsbad, California. The day after high school graduation, she packed her yearbook, ripped jeans and laptop, driving cross-country to New York City in under four days.

Her most valuable life experiences were learned thereafter while waitressing at K-Dees, a Manhattan pub owned by her uncle. Inside those four walls, she met her husband, best friend and discovered the magic of classic rock, managing to put herself through Kingsborough Community College and the English program at Pace University at the same time. Several stunted attempts to enter the work force as a journalist followed, but romance writing continued to demand her attention.

She now lives in Long Island, New York with her husband of eight years and four-year-old daughter. Although she is severely sleep-deprived, she is incredibly happy to be living her dream of writing about people falling in love.
