Cheater’s Regret by Rachel Van Dyken
Release Date: May 23rd

Genre: Contemporary Romance

New York Times and USA Today bestselling author Rachel Van Dyken returns with a smoking-hot story about the satisfaction of plotting revenge on your ex—until he turns your world upside down again.

Austin Rogers’s dreams of domestic bliss involved watching Netflix and eating hot dogs with the love of her life. But then he cheated on her. And dumped her—as if the whole thing was her fault. To maintain her pride and restore her sanity, she decides to get revenge. It feels immensely satisfying to plot her ex’s downfall—but so does kissing him.

Thatch Holloway, a plastic surgeon straight out of residency, knows he ruined the best thing that ever happened to him. But not all cheaters are created equal. He got himself into this messed-up situation—true—but he has his reasons for what happened, and he’d do it all again to protect Austin.

He’s not over her. And she’s not over him.

Austin wants closure, but since Thatch refuses to give it to her, she takes matters into her own hands. She needs to write a human-interest piece for her MBA, so she demands the full plastic-surgery experience. Sparks fly as they’re forced to work together. But Thatch isn’t afraid to play dirty in return. And he’s still hiding something—something that has the power to destroy not only Austin but their second chance at finding forever…

NICUnurse’s Review of “Cheater’s Regret” by Rachel Van Dyken
First off, full disclosure. I did receive an ARC for review. And I’m a little partial to Rachel’s books. But, with that said, I will be honest.
So, if you don’t know, this is the second book in this series. It can be read as a stand alone but you really do get more out of the story if you read “Cheater” first. We did a live review of that book if you want to check it out on the blog. And if you haven’t read it and are hesitant to read it because of the title… don’t be! This is definitely a good case for NOT judging a book by its cover!
OK…. Now, about “Cheater’s Regret.” If you listened to the live review of “Cheater” you heard me say that it wasn’t my favorite of all of Rachel’s books. (SEE! I can be honest even if she’s one of my favorites!) And I’d still recommend “Cheater” because it’s a good book. BUT… I LOVED “Cheater’s Regret”! I mean, who doesn’t love a redemption story, right? Both books are, but I guess I felt like Thatch and Austin were two much stronger characters than Lucas and Avery (Cheater). And Thatch’s actions came from a desire to protect Austin from what he thought would be devastating news. And a little fear. But mostly, he wanted to protect her. (Swoon!) I think my favorite thing about Thatch is that despite his career choice, he thinks Austin’s body is perfect just the way it is (double swoon!). As women, we face so many images and ideas of what the “perfect” body should be that are really unrealistic for some of us. And, for the most part, Austin is happy with her body and doesn’t want to change it. She’s stronger than she thinks she is and I really loved seeing her figure that out. And even when she’s angry with him, she still wants to protect him in some ways. I also loved knowing that Thatch thought he had done the right thing in the beginning but lost the fight to give in to Austin along the way because, deep down, he knew SHE was right for him. He wasn’t whiny about it, nor did he shut down his emotions because of his actions (Sorry, Lucas… this totally annoyed me about you!).
This is a romantic comedy, but there was still plenty of angst for those that like that sort of thing. Sprinkled with Rachel’s trademark sarcasm (which I obviously love), there’s plenty of LOL moments in this story, as well. She gives us strong characters that only think they are completely broken, but really are only slightly bruised. We see them come back from a place of brokenness to a happily ever after and they are stronger for it. The characters aren’t perfect, but in the end, they are perfect for each other, despite the flaws they know the other has. I give this book a rating of 5 propellers! You should most definitely go 1-click this!!
