T: Good Morning Cee Jay thanks for joining me this morning. I hope the coffee is strong enough?
I like my coffee like I like my women’ hot, strong and in both hands! LOL
T: I promise for this set of questions I’m going to keep things fun and light (well light for me) so let’s get started.
T: Have you always lived in New York?
All my life
T: After a day of writing where might we find you?
At the computer; editing and checking FaceBook
T: Did you always want to be a writer? When did you write your first story?
Oh… dear! I NEVER wanted to be a writer. I wrote and published my first novel at 50. A reader contacted me and asked me to write her bio. That novel was; “A Tortured Soul – The Unauthorized Biography of Nicholas Anderson. I have written and published 18 more novels under different pen names in the last ten years.
T: How and when did the woman now known as “Katherine Stark” met/contact you?
She contacted me by ‘snail mail’ ten years ago; asking me to write her bio after reading my first novel.
T: How many other women contacted you about their stories?
Wow! I have been contacted by several women about writing their bios or just to help then with a novel. Some have completed their work; some have dropped their projects for various reasons. One project I dropped because the woman that wanted to work with me; became too ‘sexual aggressive’ with me. I’m a writer; not a f**k toy!
T: Did it break your heart a little when other victims of abuse sent hate mail?
O… M… g…! I was shocked to get hate mail in reference to Katherine’s story. I expected some blacklash; but not pure venom! Katherine was attacked for being a ‘liar’, a ‘hypocrite’ and a ‘coward’!
I spent almost 4 years interviewing Katherine an I did not understand why she wanted to remain anonymous; I fully understand now.
T: “The man behind the curtain” sounds like the Wizard of Oz and not the protector and voice you were?
I am the “wizard” if you think about it. I am the man that women have come to; to help them with their problems. Because of who I am; and to protect their identity; I hide behind a façade.
T: Do you think you’ll keep writing about abused woman taking back control of their lives and desires?
I have tried to ‘retire’ several times; but then someone comes along with a new story; a new tribulation and a new triumph that has to be shared. I have also found that there are SO many women out there that empathize with the plight that these women have endured. I cry every time I get an email or a card from a reader that essentially says; “I thought I was the only one!”
T: I know you wrote plays, screenplays and poems prior. What typically were there subject matter?
I write in all genres. Christian, horror, erotica, children’s books (YES! Children’s books!) I even wrote a screenplay for the Hallmark channel! (No it wasn’t produced; but I did write one!)
T: While all writing has its difficulties and challenges what was the most difficult for you to write?
Oh… I started Katherine’s novel which I thought was just going to be about her love affair with Nicholas. Then we came to the BDSM. I balked. I didn’t want to write about that. She convinced me otherwise and I spent hours on my keyboard; crying over the abuse she endured. To know that BDSM; freed her; changed my perceptions about the lifestyle.
T: When you hear about the abuse the women you’ve helped tell you about what is your first reaction?
I break out into tears. I NEVER thought that the books I wrote would have such a profound effect on me or my readers. Their cards and letters break my heart but there’s a sense of accomplishment that fills my heart.
T: I hear congrats is in order, how’s the baby?
Jennifer’s son is healthy, happy and has the best mom and ‘aunt’ any child could have. I would say more… but that’s a spoiler alert!
T: What authors influence you?
As a child; I was an avid reader. As an adult; I’m more influenced by films. I like a writer that can tell a proper story with NO plot holes. Make me believe!
T: Do you feel like a proud papa with two of your protégés getting ready to release their biographies?
I don’t understand this question. But I’m always proud of any author that I help to publish their work; fiction or non-fiction. The written word is the most powerful force in the universe. In the novel: “The Confessions of Jennifer X” there was a group that helped women ‘find their voice’. I strive to uphold their mission.
T: As you’ve been writing these biographies how much research have you done on abuse women? Did you look at the statistics over the years of those that get out and those that don’t?
I’m sad to say that I didn’t have to look farther than my own home. My sisters were abused in one form or another and I am a survivor of child abuse. I actually had to do more research on the BDSM community to truthfully write about the lifestyle.
T: What comes next?
Good question! I didn’t expect this… I will let providence dictate my future!
T: Well Cee Jay that’s all I have for you today? Until next time thanks again for joining me, now get back to work and write your next book.
