“When a Lioness Snarls” by Eve Langlais

I was given the ARC for an honest review by Inkslinger PR firm.

I haven’t read any of Eve’s work in a while so this was a treat.  This is a quick-easy read that took about four hours to finish.  You can pick this one up without reading the whole series, which I always appreciate.  However, it gives you a twist at the end with the inkling of a new creature in the mix.  Can’t wait for that one to come out.

Luna is a self-confident loner lioness that is forced to work with Joeff, a clean-cut, reserved, professional wolf.  Both don’t want to keep their claws off one another but Joeff puts up barriers to keep her at a distance.  His lone wolf knows he’ll be mated for life if he touches her and she just doesn’t seem into a long-term relationship.   Their task to find out why other shape shifting couples in the city are disappearing without a trace, centered around a swinging club, keeps them in tight spaces acting like a real couple.  The sexual tension almost burns up the pages.

This is one of the things I appreciate about Eve’s writing.  If she wants you to feel the tension, it’s there.  If she wants you to be hot and bothered, she’s good at that too.  Her proses make you feel and visualize easily the characters emotions in each scene.  She also adds humor into the story so it isn’t stiff and keeps the story flowing and makes it feel real, even though it is paranormal.

In this story, Luna’s humor keeps it real and keeps Joeff on his toes.  She is unconventional against his stern severe exterior.  Slowly they both give into each other and it creates a couple of hot sex scenes towards the end.  When they allow their animals to come out, it starts to work into a relationship.  Luna and Joeff keep a balance of wills and independence in the end to get their happy ending.

As and added bonus, Eve was able to introduce a new creature into the mix through this novel that keeps you waiting for the next one in the series.  There is also a sneak peek at the next book in the Epilogue.   I would rate this an A for a good weekend read.
