Synopsis
The night ALEXANDRIA GALINARI’S Great Uncle dies she wakes up screaming after she hears a mysterious voice in her sleep. She struggles with her empathy and the voice she heard. She feels her uncle’s emotions as he says good-bye to the family. She mourns his loss. Alexis hates that she’s the only one that felt his passing. As she feels his presence around her for the last time, while falling back to sleep. Thinking of her Uncle she also ponders the words that startled her awake about a house needing a blood relation and that death follows her. Hours later the phone rings and she’s told of her Uncle death.
We meet BRENTON YOUNG, A.K.A. KENNY YOUNG, who gets a phone call from a friend who’s watching the subjects (Alexis) family. They inform Brenton that the Uncle is dead. Brenton walks down the street moaning about the choices he made that lead to them getting their mission. That saving his men or letting them die really wasn’t a choice. He meets up with his friend and former Special Forces team member COLLIN, who is staking out the girl’s (Alexis) loft and tells him the news. The mission is on, but we don’t know what the mission is. They watch the loft until the early morning and decide to go back to their place to get ready for their trip since the girl will be attending her uncle’s funeral. Later that morning they follow the girl to the airport and watch her and two men board her uncle’s private jet. One of the men remind them of an FBI agent who visited them in prison.
Alexis and her family arrive at the funeral home. She feels uneasy but chalks it up to the changing weather. Alexis soon realizes the truth as she staggers under the empathic overload. She starts feeling everyone’s emotions like she had when she was a kid and it over powers her. The first test she faces is her cousin and uncle’s oldest son as he fights with his wife. The next when his brother finds Alexis and the family huddled around her. Their emotions get the better of her and they knock her out. Her years of training and suppressing everyone’s emotions fail. Leaving her unsteady and seeking help from a man she secretly loves – her boss, JOSH HAMPTON. Josh comes to check on Alexis once her family stops babysitting her. Only her family and close friends know that she’s empathic and they are very protective of her. When he makes his presences know she is talking to herself about her cousin’s wives and how evil they are. As they talk Alexis realizes that Josh is a buffer for her empathy and he becomes her knight in shining armor for the evening. At the grave site Alexis sees two strange men that no one seems to see, yet they are watching her.
After her Uncle’s funeral Alexis learns that she has inherited a good portion of his fortune. The inheritance consists of company holdings, money and a family house that no one has ever heard about, except of course her Uncle and her maternal grandfather both of whom have died. The house has been kept secret since before Alexis was born. When all the legal issues of his death are concluded she heads back to Boston where she attends Law School and works for the District Attorney’s office.
After a few days of mourning Alexis’s best friend ZACK, comes and takes her house hunting to get her out of the loft. He decides that they will check out the family house she inherited that is located on the outskirts of Boston in Mystic Falls. They discover the house is a grand house or mansion that they both have loved since the first time Alexis found it, after making a wrong turn. Alexis and Zack look around the house, and Alexis becomes one with the grounds. Yet she has an eerie feeling she’s being watched like the house has eyes. Neither Alexis nor Zack know if that’s a good sign or not. Alexis meets, stares into the, THE FOSTER HOUSE, AKA THE HOUSE.
Brenton and Collin meet up with TRISTIAN, a psychotic doctor, at the cemetery. We learn that he is a specter and that both men fear him. They inform Tristian that Alexis has not yet moved into the Foster house. They get their orders and he disappears. Brenton and Collin discuss what lead them into making a deal with a demon and that they need to plan out to get this mission done so they can end the relationship.
Alexis gets all dressed up to attend a black tie Christmas party at her new house. She drops the bomb that she’s the new owner, and will be moving in; to the Chief of Police LOGAN DAINELS’ and his family while they entered the house. After a little mingling the house decides to play with her empathy and Josh must come to her recuse again.
A snow storm hits during Alexis’s first week in the house. As she’s researching hauntings and witch trials for Conlaw, the house lets its full time guest be known to her. It welcomes her in its own way, by playing a game to see it she’s prepared to stay and stick it out. The game is more of a test and only the house knows if Alexis passes or not. Alexis’s searches the house to make sure it’s secure. When she figures out that the house is secure, she learns that there is more to the house. Her search has her come across some interesting emotions and the voice again. Some of the emotions frighten her but others just piss her off and they have words, especially then one of the ghosts actually tells her to leave the house. She yells back at the house.
The next morning she decides to learn all she can about her family home. Unbeknown to Alexis both the District Attorney and Chief of Police knew her Uncle and Grandfather, due to the strange events that have happened in the house. Alexis however was under the impression they knew her Uncle because he kept tabs on her. This knowledge leads her to dig deeper into the true reasons why they knew each other. The cases involving the house are cold cases that no one’s working on.
The fact that she’s living in a haunted house scares her yet she is drawn to her family home. As she does her research on the house she tries to figure out a way to remove the spirits. She and Zack start working on putting the house it in order in hopes that that might help. She asks his partner for help with yoga and meditation in an effort to regain control of her empathy. Not only does she hear the voices in her dreams but she starts dreaming about deceased relatives. In the dreams they are trying to tell her something but she can’t figure out what it is. It leaves her sleep deprived some nights.
Shortly after learning about her house, a man named Kenny Young begins contacting her. During their first conversation Alexis wonders which mental hospital he escaped from. In their second conversation he tells her about seeing dead relatives and that the government is trying to hide the truth from everyone. He does this in hopes that she will meet him, but Alexis isn’t biting.
Brenton/Kenny writes Alexis a letter; he sneaks on to school property and sticks it on her desk at school. It takes him time to get it right. He’s frustrated that she hasn’t been alone so he could talk to her more.
Alexis has an unexpected visit from Homeland security and they piss her off. Three different agencies make their presence known to her and she’d not quite sure how to deal with them following her around or entering her house. Zack and TUCKER decide to let their emotions get the better of them and Alexis must deal with their fall out. Zack’s boyfriend admits he knows Alexis is empathic.
Alexis has a nightmare because of the agents and the voice, she woke by a friend, TRENT FISHER, calling from the police force. She informs him of the night before and he starts looking into what’s going on.
Alexis fines the note from Brenton on her desk when she arrives at school. After taking their quarterly tests she talks to her mentor, who had been a friend of Woody’s, about everything that’s going on. Needing “fatherly,” even though she has two, advice he was the closes person she had to Woody or known what Woody would have said to her, and it’s that advice she wanted.
Alexis has lunch with Trent and his partner and she tells him about Brenton/Kenny and what the government agencies did. Trent is still pissed but his partner takes control of the situation and makes a joke about them being an old married couple.
Brenton/Kenny hides out in the trees in Alexis’ backyard watching her as she works around the house. While the rest of his group plans the mission and how they are going to get Alexis to meet the guy Tristian wants her to be with.
While the police are trying to figure out why the government agencies are watching Alexis, she and her friends on the force work on trying to bring Brenton/Kenny in. They have learned who he is and that he is wanted. He escaped with his friend Collin from Leavenworth psych ward. Before their escape they ranted about Alexis, which got the attention of the FBI, NSA, CIA and Homeland security.
The agencies watch Alexis to see how she is connected to these former Special Forces members. Neither she nor the police want her to become a victim to Brenton or his partner. None of the reports they have tell why they were put in Leavenworth only they were there. Everything else had been sealed.
With the agencies watching her she’s unable to work on active cases or even go into the District Attorney Office. Instead of letting Alexis go the DA, Josh Hampton, comes up with a side job for her to work on. He gives her all the closed cases that were never solved pertaining to her house. This project helps her learn about the house and her family history. Alexis throws a party to release stress. She tells Brenton, in hopes that her plan will work to lore him out. He shows up. Alexis informs her friends on the force that he may show so they can watch him and possible set a trap. Brenton makes is way around the party talking to all the officers and they try to obtain as much intell as they can, they don’t arrest him as they want to learn more about his plan and what it has to do with Alexis. Josh makes an appearance and some emotions flare as ex-boyfriends see they may not be needed. Josh figures out that Alexis is empathic after the emotional outburst of her friends and when he has to play knight in shining armor once again.
As the police get closer to figuring out why Brenton/Kenny is contacting Alexis the FBI, NSA and others come in to take over. When the agencies finally decide they want Alexis’ help; they have a sit down with her, Josh and the police department. They inform her that they will be placing one agent and military personal in her house. During this meeting she even learns which ghost has been using Brenton/Kenny, and that the agents think it was her relative. One of the officers’ informs them that he knows the person they want Alexis to meet.
Brenton/Kenny wants Alexis to fulfill a legacy that he believes to be good based on the deal he made with the spirit. He’s torn between what he’s being to see is right and what the mission is. He’s starting to get dreams from Alexis’s true family and it scares him. He’s also starting to care for Alexis as a person. He wonders how evil Tristian truly is and what he has in store for Alexis. The FBI moves an agent and a Special Forces officer into Alexis’s house to watch and protect her in hopes of capturing Brenton and his partners. Alexis has to act as though these two are friends of hers and they follow her around, making it difficult to function at school. Her classmates help her in researching the cases related to her house as class project as it relates to the lessons they are learning in Conlaw.
While Alexis tries to figure out what her true legacy is and what it has to do with her, the arrival of a box from her Uncle’s attorney’s office holds many unanswered questions. The family history is laid out except for one missing book that tells Alexis what her Legacy is. That night Alexis, Josh and a few others go through the documents trying to unlock there mysteries.
Collin gets taken over by Tristian, he knows Alexis is about to figure out that he is evil and that he can’t be allowed to come back to life. He also knows she’s about to learn all there is too know about the Foster House, her Legacy and what power she has. All his plans are about to be crushed, he does the only thing he can think of and snatches the body. Brenton and Collin’s girlfriend know something is off. Collin’s girlfriend gets in Tristian’s way and he shoots her. Brenton and Collin fight but head toward the Foster House. Brenton is in a panic and knows Collin will suffer when he realizes what he’s done to his fiancé, even if it wasn’t he who did it.
When a call comes in that shots were fired at Brenton’s Brownstone and he’s headed toward Alexis’ house the place becomes a battle ground. Josh and Alexis make their way to the upper floors and instead of hiding like they were told they search the house. As Brenton and his friends charge the house from the back, backup arrives. Alexis and Josh are met by a few ghosts who show them the room they need to find. At first the attic door doesn’t open but when it does, Alexis finds a family secret she didn’t know existed. The family had been witches. As Josh and Alexis walked around the room they came across a book that looks similar to the ones they had been reading before the phone call. Josh starts to read from the book, and as they learn about Alexis and what she needed to do, the lights go out.
